Backing up from a diyer job??

I am in the process of changing the rear window seal of the 1983 240D. I have gotten everything cleaned up and have decided to carry it to a windshield installation place to have it re-installed. After messing around trying to install the rubber seal on the windshield I decided to turn it over to someone that does it every day. My facilities are lacking and I don't feel that I will be able to install it by myself. Any diyer's out there ever done one successfully?
Anyway, I am having them install a new windshield in the front because it is cracked all the way accross.

thanks
The guy that is going to paint it said it did not make any difference to him. I have the original MB shop manual with very detailed pictures, etc.. and although it looks pretty straight forward, which I am sure it is, I just don't get a real comfortable feeling with it like when I am turning wrenches or such.

I've come across some fairly detailed explanations of how to do this on posts here in the forum. Something about using a string/lanyard inside the gasket to hold it open in place, setting in the glass, and then pulling out the string. Hopefully a search here can pull up some of this info for you.

My brother has a client that is a glass company, including lots of automotive glass. They told him the Mercedes W123 is particularly difficult to do, and that the rear glass is subject to breakage during the seal replacement.

This summer I'm having both the windshield and back glass seals replaced. They both leak a small amount. I think this is a good investment in the life of the car (rust prevention) and new seals should last 15+ years.

Are you doing this before or after the paint job? I'm thinking you might want to have the glass out for new paint so it covers the metal under the seals.
