A friend of mine is an ex Airborn Ranger. I once asked him about carrying a firearm.
He just said he never needed to since the only reason he would need one is to protect himself from someone who has already pulled a gun, and if they had pulled a gun he would just take theirs. I have seen him do this at least once. I know not everyone has the skill to do this sort of thing, but we get into some rather rough parts of town sometime. His view is that if anyone is carrying, he is carrying. They just don't know it.

I'll go where ever I please with my concealed weapon(permitted by law, clearly I would not go into a school or courthouse). If they have a sign that says "no firearms" I will go elsewhere or if I really need to go into the business I'll leave it secured in my car.
