Ban Me Too
Ban me too.
BC has contributed more than 90% of the people here combined. Of course TOU (which can apparently be adhered occasionally) prohibits me from in any way criticizing the moderation, so I won't. I will say that there were moderators here in times past who did an excellent job, contributed in meaningful ways to the entirety of the forum. Roy, I am extremely surprised by your part in this.

I think that you might be overreacting a bit. There is precedent on this forum for coming back from a permanent ban, although I don't expect that Brian will don a set of virtual knee pads, as that member did...

It's called using a different User ID and clearing cookies This being said, BC may have been argumentative at times, but banning him is an imbecilic idea.

It's a rare day when I agree with CMB, but I do agree with his first paragraphs. I will, however stop WAY short of writing one single thing against Roy. He and Jim Ellington are the TRUE classy moderators on this forum. Although I bantered with Brian a good bit, he was a fair moderator that never seemed to allow his political beliefs or disagreements to factor into his moderation. At least he never did that with me. He never gave me an infraction that was not within the intention of the TOU either. If the moderators choose to honor CMB's request to be banned, they can ban me also. |

Brian has not been happy since he was dethroned. So much animosity towards the site, towards moderators, towards the people he once ruled over that derived much satisfaction seeing him removed as moderator.
The moderators were told to loosen up, so we did. The new owners wanted to completely remove all political discussion. While it would certainly make our lives alot easier, OD would lose something that brings many more people here on a daily basis than it keeps away. I did feel sorry for him, as his intentions were good in wanting totally consistent moderation, and he was a massive contributor to the forum. Hell, highest posting member of the forum, more than a decade. I also genuinely like the guy. What you guys don't understand since you're not behind the scenes seeing it all, is this was a classic example of suicide by cop. Brian was growing increasingly unhappy, and loved to criticize us. Given his standing in the forum, we gave him lots of rope. Finally we told him to quit criticizing us or you will be banned. He liked the idea of martyrdom, wanted to test us, and upped his attacks. You are playing right into his hand. He wanted to be banned because it would create an uproar, more people attacking us, jumping ship, etc. Over what? Volunteers with a soft touch that can be taken as inconsistent at times? Seriously? Get over it. I've come close multiple times to resigning as moderator because of the way I'm demonized. I get enough of that in my day job as a Used Car Dealer. Certainly don't need any more abuse.

Gee and here I thought this was a forum about Benz's.
Ask anyone such as myself who has moderated and to a man they will tell you the same thing ... that being that 99% of ALL forum issues come from "open discussion" section. I seldom go there and less seldom comment or post. Frankly I expected more logic and intellect from Benz owners than what I have seen in OD. Look back at the forum in general history. More hate and discontent has been generated via OD than anyplace. Several quite Benz knowledgeable folks no longer come here specifically due to OD BS. Is OD really worth it ?

We have a TOU for a reason. If you would like a free for all you are welcome to post elsewhere.

'Welcome Back Larry' It is the diversity of opinion that makes this place worth visiting, and although we tend to debate from different sides of the fence, I still believe we have more in common than either of us might care to admit to... So, I'm glad to see that you have returned. I agree with your assessment of BC's moderating. It was fair and consistent, and could not have been done without a large sacrifice of time. I guess when you find someone willing to give that level of commitment to a site like this, the right and proper thing to do is fire them, replace them with people who most assuredly do not put in the same effort, then ban said person when they point out the differences. Again, I am not criticizing this mod team. I really have no issue with the laissez-faire approach, but the vindictiveness is surprising. Testament that they must actually give a $hit what BC has to say. As for my comment about Roy, I hope you see that I share your opinion of him as well, which explains my true surprise that he is part of this decision. The idea has been raised that OD could hurt sales (the true reason PeachParts exists) I have stated that I did not believe that was possible. This kind of act, however, gives me cause to rethink my stance.

I have not "returned."
I only OCCASIONALLY comment where I feel EXTREMELY compelled to do so. Don't consider me a regular poster. As Brian said, there is life outside this forum and the Internet. They can ban me in the next five minutes and I could care less. |

Unfortunately the only way to apply any set of rules evenly is to remove the human equation and that cannot be applied in a forum setting.
Maybe it is time for a free for all forum thread that is left alone and complaints from that thread are ignored. Maybe have the participants sign an online waiver when entering. I dunno... |
