Plus they have electric devices to prove their theories.

You know what?

I would imagine the viewing experience at that place might be greatly enhanced if - first, before you went in, you had dropped a "tab" or two of really, really strong, LSD - no?

Oh yah, take the Long Steep Dive!

Indeed. I was educated exclusively in a Catholic school and at no time did they try and push that crap.

As for Europe. They dumped religion a long time ago.

I read somewhere a few years back that Texas, standing alone, would have the 4th largest GNP in the world.

If that's even remotely true, it's doubtful the folks in D. C. would ever let that much dinero sail away.

According to this Wiki link that would not be correct. While TX does have a large GDP, it would rank 14th not 4th. Even our smallest state VT, would rank 103rd out of 185 countries.

Wiki

I imagine there are quite a few other factors that would come into play. Would the TX GDP shrink from lack of federal spending among other things.

TX GDP is $1.5 trillion out of $15 trillion. Yes it would probably leave a mark but I say we let them leave. I know I am not alone in in the thought that if Texas leaves the union, I would leave Texas.

Texas seceding? Idle talk. The whole evolution thing with the far right is pretty hard to understand.

Part of me wishes that Texas would secede and take the rest of the red states with it. The blue states are tired of supporting the red states' welfare needs. I say that only part of me supports the secession of the red states because my state would be entirely red were it not for a few (thankfully large) blue jurisdictions. On the whole, I am OK with the union as it is. In fact, I like being a southerner, even if I barely qualify as one.

I was recently reading an article in Harper's about religion being taught in Boston public schools. The evidence from that program showed it to be a waste of time and money.

This article was from 1944, so it is not like this has not been tried, evaluated, and rejected. The overall thrust of the program was to eventually allow students who objected to any teachings, such as evolution, to leave public schools and to use state funds, in the form of vouchers, to attend private schools that taught what they thought they should learn.

Some people think this sort of thing is new. It is not.

And the textbook crazies in Texas have been around since the early 60's. They think if they can just force everyone to think as they do the world will be a better place, so they will, like the poor, be with us always.
