This is to meet with an admissions interviewer from a university, not for a job, right?

I'd just order a cup of coffee -- I don't think you're being graded on that part

ah... I misunderstood. I wouldn't order anything unless you really feel like it.
I thought it was an internship or some such.

Meeting at Starbucks for a college interview. Guess they do things differently than when I went to school.

In all seriousness, a lot of university interviews in the US are conducted by alumni who volunteer for the job -- you can sometimes even end up meeting at someone's house!

Makes sense because if you're applying to a school in California and you're in Boston, you shouldn't be expected to travel there just for an interview which you may or may not pass.

Yeah, I was kind of uneasy with Starbucks too, but now that we've rescheduled, we'll be meeting in a remote swamp so I feel much more comfortable with it now.

If you need a guide, gimme a holler.

At least there's not a lot of banjo playing and pig squealing in the woods and swamps in these parts.

University. I don't think I'm being graded, but I'm partly wondering what the sort of typical etiquette is for this and if there is something horrible out there that I should avoid. I hate coffee, so I don't think it would be good to be sitting there dreading each sip and trying to stifle faces when I do sip .

I like the idea of not getting anything. I may do that.

That will certainly show that you are only interested in the meeting, not the refreshments.

Do they serve booze at Starbucks? Maybe you could get the interviewer to order you a cocktail....

I think a few in California serve beer and wine, but that's very dependent on state laws.

Whose idea was Starbucks? The interviewer's? Order a cup of black coffee. It'll give you something to hold onto if you're the fidgety type. If not, don't order a thing. Water maybe.
