The comment disregards that People might follow their Religion out of love instead of fear.

Saudis, apparently, couldn't see religion this way.

I wonder if what Larry believes is closer to reality then you suspect.

Drug abuse? Some measures say it has been on the decline since 1979. On the other side, the greatest increase in our prison population have been drug convictions.
Well maybe incarceration does work until the Druggies get out of prison. It could be the longer sentencing and old age are partly the reason for the drop in violent crime.

Another question would be is the decrease in drug abuse due to decriminalization? If so that short skews the statistics.
I can see a Pollster stopping Folks on the Street and asking them if they abuse drugs or Alcohol.

A different reason less People abusing Drugs.
Drug Deaths exceed Traffic deaths
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Drugs/drug-deaths-exceed-traffic-deaths/story?id=14554903

"Drug overdose was responsible for 38,329 deaths in the US in 2010. US overdose deaths have increased for 11 successive years. In 2010, and for the third year in a row, the number of US citizens whose deaths were drug related exceeded the number of fatalities in road traffic accidents (32,885). Opioid analgesic overdoses have claimed 125,000 US lives in the last decade. Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)"

http://www.overdoseday.com/facts-stats/

"Drug-related deaths have more than doubled since the early 1980s. There are more deaths, illness, and disabilities from substance abuse than from any other preventable health condition. Today, one in four deaths is attributable to alcohol, tobacco, and illicit drug use."

I am interested in the reactions to no Religious Law. One group went wild the other group apparently got scared of the freedom/temptation/corruption and spend a lot of time in the Mosque.

The freedom/temptation/corruption is what the Terrorist are afraid of. And, now I can see why.

Apparently at least in this example a large group of the Saudi Muslims are ready to jump ship when there is no Law to keep them from doing so.

This could be the same for the other Muslim Nations.

Where I grew up I knew the People on My Street and the next Street (My Aunt and Uncle lived on the next Street). Between those 2 Streets there was one Man who was an Alcoholic (and still managed to work as a Mechanic and support his Family).

None of the Adults took any illegal Drugs.

In the late 1960s there was some Kids (3 that I knew) of High School age (they were My age) that occasionally smoked Weed.
All of the Houses I My area had Kids within 5 years of age of each other. If someones Parents had been Drug users are abusers that info would have leaked out and it would have been likely their Kids would have dipped into their Stash of Drugs.

My best guess is in My present Neighbor Hood there is a lot more Drug and alcohol abusers than in My past Neighborhood.

History of drug laws

Keep in mind that at one time People had no problems selling Wight Loss Pills that had Tape Wrom Eggs in them. Meaning there was a Time when the Goverment did not interfere much.

The War On Tapeworm Egg Pills is a costly, ineffective boondoggle and should be stopped.

if there was a coherent drug policy in this country and legalization of certain substances, you would not have this undersociety of drug pushers.

Never did understand the "pusher" concept. The whole picture of some sleazy character on a street corner trying to convince people to try something they wouldn't ordinarily try is a stereotype that goes all the way back to Reefer Madness days.
I'll admit to having known a few people over the years who dealt drugs. None of them "pushed" anything. Their customers were quite eager.

Courvoisier and Coke? That alone is worth capital punishment
