I'm still waiting for the racist part of the story.

It should never matter what "race" or "races" or what race is claiming to be discriminated against. Justice is blind, and rightly it must be blind.

That being said I don't see the racism either. The agent wanted to be with his/her clients it appears. As said unless it was a open house I don't believe it's normal practice to have strangers enter a house for sale with an agent who is about to show the house. You need your own agent or you need an appointment with the owner.

(or more likely, the owner's agent since the owner signed a contract with him/her to show the house)

Joe,

If you truly believe this to be a case of racism, contact the NAACP as soon as possible. They have investigators on staff who will request separate interviews with you and the realtor, and can assist you in addressing this matter in a legal venue.

And have more than one individual tell him to pound sand? Nah. Easier to come on here and play the victim.

If it's not an open house situation, as others have noted, it's by appointment only. Perhaps nothing more than a poor choice of phrase by the agent, who might instead have said, "I'm sorry, showings are by appointment only, please contact your agent" or something like that.

I also keep thinking of the "Seinfeld" episode focusing on nuance.

What did the person emphasize?

Did he say, "I'm not comfortable showing you the property?"

Or was it, "I'm not comfortable showing you the property?"

Or perhaps, "I'm not comfortable showing you the property?"

If the second, I can see how one might hear racism. Otherwise, I think it's a fair chance it was just a poorly-chosen phrase under the circumstances.

Being a white guy, I'd consider my interuption of a scheduled sales appointment as cause enough for the somewhat rude behavior of the agent. I don't have "race" as a regular explanation
Maybe your case was racism, but I just don't see it.

I'd go with the fact that the agent had clients who made an appointment and was uncomfortable showing the place to a walk up. How would it have gone if the clients made an offer on the spot and now you're there maybe with a counter...plus her obligation to the original clients who are there.

That is an uncomfortable situ....

To be fair, MS, we're looking at this from a white man's perspective. As a resident of Texas, Joe probably has been on the wrong end of racist behavior more times than we can count. As such, he may be more qualified to judge this situation than we are.

If it turned into an impromptu auction, she'd get a higher commission

Or possibly lose both client and the walk up.

Probably a misunderstanding due to someone who is overly sensitive.

I agree with what others have said: you tried to jump in on a private showing. She told you to get lost. As for "I don't feel comfortable showing you the house" that means "get lost you're not my client". You also were breaking their usual scheduling protocols which may be there for safety reasons on top of everything else.

So you are saying that "I didn't get my way" and I happen to be a minority does not equal racism? So I cannot say the cop that didn't let me off the hook who said "I cannot give you only a warning ticket." isn't a racist? That means I have to pay the fine? What a crock of poop.
