Once we get the tags in hand and on the rig I'll peak & tweak the ignition timing to it has the proper giddyap of the mighty MoPar small block 360 CID V8 again .

Whew , it's road ready, still needs lots of little repairs and I'd like to get the AC going again ere long .

Glad to hear you figured it out! I love setting floats, especially on motorcycles

Post Ford Power Valves

Glad to know someone else still remembers endless hot starting problems.....

To - day we put the new, current license tabs on the rear plate so we're pretty much good to go I think.....

I think I fixed the intake vacuum leak troubling my 1970 Honda CT90k2 that I'm hoping to take to Death Valley in this truck, the AutoClutch is still not releasing properly but I'll not give up on it just yet ~ I have three clutches and my trusty electronic calipers to help measure the various & sundry bits in there, I'll cherry pick the best and see if I can assemble one good working clutch .

Some guy in TEXAS sold me a box full of parts for $50, it has a supposed 'known good' clutch in the box, I installed it and it released O.K. but slipped so badly when it got hot, I couldn't kick start the engine ~ taking it to bit revealed totally worn out bits inside, ~ the steel driven plates were not only worn with gouges in them but two of them were DEEP BLUE from years of riding it slipping.... .

The rest of the stuff in the box was well worth the $50 but I'd hoped to be done with this by now .

I had the 360 in a 1976 Charger. The car was a dog, and anytime there was moisture in the air, I'd have to change the cap and rotor. Heck, a dog could pee on the tire and it wouldn't start. I learned to keep spares in the trunk, along with a small can of WD-40.

It's a solid engine. Since your's is in a truck, it won't ever be a powerhouse without proper tune and gearing. What gearing is the old girl?

I'm not sure of the final drive ratio, it's a big, long, heavy all steel BEAST with a small block 360 V-ate and 727 slushbox, it goes O.K., I know how to peak & tweak it to go *much* faster, my brother, whom's truck it is, says it's powerful enough , don't mess with it .

In the late 1970's an old high school chum of mine went Mopar crazy and bought a cherry 1971 (?) Challenger, he wanted the lighter E body to save weight , he installed a 413 engine and boy howdy did it GO ! .

I remember he was trying to get me to help him put on a turbo charger, at that time I didn't understand the concept .

I had the same happen to my 440 Chrysler. Ended up drilling a hole in the cap and ported in a vacuum line to force vent it. Worked for years.

I hadn't thought of doing that. Great idea. The next time I get my hands on one of those old engines, I'll be sure to follow suit.

Mine was the 360 4bbl, mated to a 727. I could have changed the rear gears out for something better, but on the highway, my car would fly. Hammer the fun pedal down, and watch the fuel gauge drop. It would pass everything on the highway, but a gas station. Its the reason why I had my license revoked when I just turned 17. They gave me driving privileges to an from work and school, but that was it. The cops in the area knew the car, and after my brother broke the rear spring perch loaded down with Thanksgiving day newspapers, I got rid of it and moved into a Yugo. Much smaller, less chance of getting pulled over...til I got caught doing 93 in a 55. Privileges were removed til I was 18...which was only 4 months wait.

I had a slight problem with speeding when I was younger. I've been good since...at not getting caught...but I'm better than I used to be.

Post Traveling Speeds

I keep hearing how some states are really down on speeding, others not so much .

I like to travel at a pretty good clip but not to weave in and out of other traffic so my speed varies all over the place .

I was driving SWMBO in my '82 240D to - day, it has a slushbox so it's pretty wound up & noisy above 65 MPH ~ I touch 70 occasionally but not often .

My Coupe, OTOH, it skips happily along @ 85 ~ 90, most of the time I like 75 or so but sometimes I get that silly 'need for speed' and if no traffic I honk right along .

FWIW, I stay the hell out of the left lane unless I'm overtaking no matter what I drive .

I love cruise control...I hit the mark, set it, and relax as the car propels itself in the direction of my choosing. It also nearly guarantees that I don't get pegged as a speeder, since I'm generally no more than 5mph over the limit, unless all traffic is moving at a greater speed. I've found that to be more common than it used to be, especially on I70 between Columbus and Pittsburgh, especially West bound. I don't understand the direction controlling the flow of traffic, but it sure seems to.

Angry Incompetence

Yes, as I keep saying : in my 50 + years Mechanicing, fully 90 % of all works I have done involves fixing others mistakes, errors or deliberate malfeasance .

The amount of deliberate "who cares ?!" by people who are paid to do a proper job staggers me .
