Replacing chrome bumper trim

I recieved my piece today... I tried to take the bumper off but I don't have the right tools. Anyone know the right tools I need to tackle this job? I believe I need to take 4 screws off on each of the bumper shocks.. plus maybe a screw or 2 on the sides of the bumper assembly. Anyone know the size of what the tool should be? I called my mechanic and he wants something like 2 hours labor to do the job. I believe I can do the job right in maybe 45mins to an hour with the right tools, but oh well. I hate to spend $200 just on replacing a rusted chrome strip. With $200 I can do other improvements on the car that might be necessary, if you know what I mean.

If you are giong to reuse the plastic part of your old bumper, it will take somewhat longer. There are a bunch of small fasteners holding the chrome to the plastic. The nuts holding the bumper to the car are probably 17 or 19mm aand come right of. I think mine had one sheet metal screw holding one side in tight. Something added later I'm sure. There's a removeable rubber filler on each side, on the inner wheel well near the leading tip of the bumper. (Mine are still off). You'll need another helping hand to slip it back on. There are channels that slide over each vent for the trunk that keep the leading tips up, you can't be on both sides at once, and the studs are a bit snug of a fit. If you don't have a set of sockets, you can get a good set and still have a bunch of change left from the $200. And with new tools you can start looking for something else to fix...Get wrenchin'
Easy job, just Tinker Toy stuff.

I am not sure what you meant...

I know there are two bumper shocks that attach to the bumper. Each shock has 4 bolts. Then there is also the part on the bumper that holds the chrome intact. I can see I believe 6 screws that hold down the piece I want to replace. Would it be easier to remove these 6 screws and slide off the old piece? or is more complicated than that? Please help!

thanks a lot for writing!

Sorry, I got in late last nite, between work and keeping my mother-in-laws house in repair, I sometimes feel like I don't have a life.
There are only the eight shock nuts to remove, unless someone stuck a screw or two in the leading tips to keep them at attention. Then the entire bumper assembly should slide reward off the car. Then put it on a work table or bench (or the floor) and then it's a matter of removing the steel piece from the plastic part. You'll see all the fasteners, like I said, I think they all take a 10mm socket to get the little buggers loose.
If you need a hand, go west about 2000 miles and look for a place with several MB diesels with an old turkey pondering over them.
