I thought his post was dissing bmw's not benzes.

I guess you all read something I didn't.

I like BMW, I just wouldn't buy one to drive for my personal car. other than that, I have no problems with them. Benzes just feel and look better to me.

Well...lets compare the Z8 to the....SL55...that will be a fun comparison. 5.5 liter supercharged V8 producing around 492 horsepower. 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. That would be very fun.

Anyhow...BMW I think should stick to motorcycles. I love their motorcycles...amazing...reliable...shaft driven..boxer. BMW Automobiles on the other hand really don't appeal to me. It's like comparing a TAG Heuer to a Rolex...you pay a decent amount more for the Rolex, but you get a heavy durable watch without a quartz movement. BMW's first car was a copy of the Austin Dixie.
BMW's just don't seem as solid and "beatable" as Mercedes. And they definately don't have the history of reliability. 4N, I'll race you in my 240D 4 speed...let me come to your house a bit earlier and "inspect" some stuff under the hood while you wait patiently inside your home

Yeah, but how does the SL55 handle?

That's where BMWs traditionally really shine.

MB may squarely beat BMW in niche market supercars, but the mass-market 330i will soundly deliver a performance b*tch-slap to the C320.

Likewise, so will the Infiniti G35.

Howdy All,
Here I am, left out in the cold again on the great MBZ/BMW debate. I would like to do a side by side, apples to apples-oranges to oranges comparison of a BMW in the same catagorie as my MBZ but alas I only have a MOG

Chill out guys, pour yourself a drink and relax

Most of my friends prefer BMW's and do hate Mercedes. However they agree that Mercedes tend to last longer design wise and simply hold up better.

I like how MB's look cleaner and that is why I think they don't age that fast.

I have no preferences. However I love old MB's and some classic BMW's (E24 and E31 coupes).

I must admit that my friends' 3-series, while really common cars, are very nice and I can see why a lot of people prefer it over the C-Class.

It drives nicer (I've driven the C-Class too), and that BMW manual gearbox is lovely and it's HUGE fun! The engines are powerful and sound great when it works hard.

The BMW E39 and MB W124 are my favorite 90's mid-size sedan. Similarly the elegant and stealth 500E/E500 is my dream car and so is the sexy E39 M5!

ahh... i gotta stop dreaming.

my opinion : I love 'em both.. but I would take most older MB's over older BMW's ('cept when we talk bout E24s and E31s )

The new ones are a different story I like a bit of both.

You'd appropriately compare it to the M3. Which would likely beat it. BMW has historically focused on the sports segment more than MB has until recently, though the AMG's of the last 5 years or so give cause to hope for ultimate parity.

The prob. with the AMG's to date is the automatic-only policy, though this could also be considered an advantage. My "perfect" car is an M5, but if I had to commute in LA traffic everyday I'd buy an E55 instead.

Hey Frank! In my opinion, there's no such thing as "just a Mog"! I've been watching sale prices of those for some time now, and hope to save enough for just such a toy!! Then I'll go out and look for stuck Hummers (and BMW's )

funny you should mention this... I have a friend with a C32 who raced an E46 M3 with the SMG-II shifter, and the C32 beat him by a little. Things to take into consideration: the bmw was n/a, the mercedes was supercharged, both have the same displacement (if i'm not mistaken), and both had a form of automatic (although SMG-II wins hands down in that department). I'm sure if you slapped a dinan supercharger on the M3 it'd be a MUCH different story

If by "inspect" you mean "remove engine/replace with hamster in wheel" I'm sure you'd win... As far as the watch thing... I'm actually partial to tag heuers and Omegas... I think Rolex's are too showy, and not worth the extra money. That may explain our difference in tastes.

There are auto-winding mechanical watches from Tag Heuer too. I honestly find Quartz to be more practical and so far my Quartz-Tag has been more durable than the Automatic ones.

In fact I do like Tags better than Rolex for now. There is a Rolex that I want BADDDly though. The Explorer II!! That thing is a beaut!! ah sucks... gotta sell my diesel and apply for a loan to get one.

allright off topic.

speaking of Tags - they are as reliable as Toyotas and as tough and long lasting as MB's and as good looking as Bimmers huh

the C32 .vs. M3. I don't like both. I've read horror stories about the M3's engine. I'd own one and trade it in once warranty runs out. The C32 doesn't look too impressive inside. Especially the center console and the switches.... The BMW is nicer inside. Don't like the BMW's "I'm fast and super super super cooll get out of my way" look though.

I'm too picky but i shouldn't be. I can't even afford the rims of either car.

Maybe if I had a choice now I'd get an M3. Too bad everybody here seems to have one.

The C32 sounds better though (in my opinion...)
