I don't seem to recall ever mentioning yelling, or carrying on like a lunatic.

That' s not my style. I prefer to tell someone to f*^& off quietly.

I don't rant and rave as some have suggested.

Thanks for participating.

I used to work at a Home depot....

tha was considered to be one of the Detroit area inner city stores. We had "receipt checkers" for as long as I can remember.

It was NOT uncommon for us to have an inventory that was off by almost a million dollars. That's right. ONE store. Most of it was theft by customers and associates. Before Home Depot changed their return policy, I had personally seen some customers take a window A/C and go straight to the returns register and attempt to return it. Their excuse was that they had brought the A/C thru either the lumber door down on the other end of the store or thru the garden gate.

I even helped a guy load the heaviest A/C on a cart. After watching him leave the dept, I saw he went straight to returns. I walked up there and just stood there while he waited in line. He finally noticed me and got real nervous. After about a minute he made some excuse to go to his car. I watched him go out to his car and just drive off.

The bad thing now is with the advent of newer and more advanced printers, people are printing their own labels of UPC and putting them on items. They get $200 ceiling fans for only $20. Now that PISSES me off!!

I used to laugh at all of the people who would stop on the way out of the Best Buy near where I lived.

There was a HUGE dude in a yellow jacket that said "Best Buy Security". It even had an arm patch so he looked more official. If you didn't read the words, it would have looked exactly like a police windbreaker.

He used to have people lining up to show him their receipt on weekends. And at other times he would stand at the security podium and make eye contact and hold his hand out so you would give him your receipt.

I used to just keep walking. By the time I got right up to the exit door he would say in an authoritative voice "Sir, you NEED to stop so I can check your receipt". Then he would repeat it again louder a second time.

I just kept walking and never turned my head. He didn't even step away from his security area, as he knew that there wasn't a thing he could do if I didn't stop.

Costco, Sams and BJ are VERY different though. You need to show them your receipt, because you agreed to it when signing up for membership.

But any non-membership stores.. just keep on walking and do NOT stop. If they under-scanned or under-charged you, it's their problem. Once the transaction is complete and you are walking out, it's too late to stop you UNLESS you have stolen something.

Remember that they are free to threaten anything up to (and including) calling the cops. But only the cops can do anything about it. And once you pull out that receipt, you're free to go and the store looks stupid in front of the cops. And the store security guys know that too.. so they will not both you unless you are 100% stealing something.

Unless they have caught you on video putting something in your pocket, they won't bother you at all. They will make it SEEM like they have all the authority in the world, but they don't.

BJ's employess have told me that it is part of the membership agreement that I signed. I then tell them to f*#@ off again and leave.

What are your opinions on the subject?
Your conduct is idiotic.

Really? Says who?

This is how Best Buy has chosen to do business. Your conduct shows disrespect, IMHO.

Eight years and nine days...nice.

Inconveniences are part of the money-saving ritual. Go shop at Macy's or Nordsrtrom, they won't check your receipt. Of course your Nordstrom-branded jeans will cost you $89, and a good part of that goes into paying security. Cameras, people to watch them, a whole "loss prevention" force.

I think maybe the key to this whole thread is this comment:

Quote:
Guys, I really think you guys got it all wrong. I don't blow up at the slightest thing, in fact I am probably one of the more laid back people you would meet.
(emphasis supplied.)

The point I think many made in this thread is that the door receipt check is to them a "slight thing" and the reaction is perceived as inappropriate to the "infraction."

In the end, if you don't like the policies, don't shop there. But if you do patronize the store, I'd humbly submit that you're being a turd if you decide to follow some and tell the poor employees off regarding those you reject.

Nope, exactly right. Go for maximum rudeness to the paper-checkers -- maybe they'll go find another job. And, of course, minimum inconvenience to yourself since you're avoiding having your time wasted by those rent-a-cops.

I am curious.
If you guys don't like having to show your receipt on the way out of a store, what do you do when you fly?
Especially since 9/11

I disagree.

There is no obligation to take your own valuable time and prove to a security guard that you did not steal their merchandise.

Their conduct shows disrespect by making the assumption of guilt unless proven otherwise.

I never stop to show them a receipt (unless it is a membership club where their rules.......rule).

Go for maximum inconvenience of the TSA pigs -- no naked scanner, "opt out" for the search. And then ask the pig doing the search "did you enjoy that, because I sure did?" to make sure he goes home to his family and showers for about 2 hours with a Brillo pad.

You are referring to a completely different set of circumstances.

The Feds have stated the rules under which they will allow you to board an airplane. Either you follow their rules, or you drive. There isn't any option. Attempting to irritate them in any way will simply result in additional time spent on your part..........with the possibility of missing the flight if you really get them annoyed. Some forget about the fact that the Feds have quite a bit of power and leverage..........you don't.

With the stores, you absolutely have the option to leave the store without inconveniencing yourself.

In my case, I might show the receipt if I can accomplish it without spending any additional time...........say 10 seconds. The alternative and the potential argument isn't worth the increase in blood pressure.

But you can inconvenience the TSA swine as much as you want outside the "office." One time, I was driving through a not-so-nice part of Newark (NJ) and saw a guy whose car had broken down. I stopped, was going to get out and offer help. Then I saw the TSA uniform -- I left, but not without telling him WHY I was leaving. Hope he got mugged!

That's just juvenile.

The employees of the TSA are just servants who do as they are told. They're trying to earn a living just like we are.

You've got a problem with the TSA system, and I agree with you. Unfortunately, since its the Feds, we're not going to ever get it changed. Once a system is in place, it will never be rescinded.

But, lashing out against the employees is just plain stupid.

Don't like the abuse? Get a real job. Prostitution is always an option if they can't do anything else useful.
