Besides, he's already effectively paying higher taxes by buying more FUEL. What IS relevant is that it would be unfair, and is not needed in the first place. Mike

The simple fact remains that if gas continues to rise in price, it will definitely impact thos people "on the bubble" financially and they will have to change their mindset when it comes to the cars they drive.
While I am not "on the bubble" I will be getting rid of my wifes Cherokee shortly for a more economic car. I hate the thought of putting more and more $$$ in the tank each month it seems. There are others who don't care what prices the gas is and will continue to drive SUV's at 3-4.00 a gallon. And those are the only people that should be driving them. Another probability is that those people "on the bubble" will not have a choice and will keep their SUV and 1) change their spending habits or 2) put a lot a of gas on those dreadful gas cards, leading to more consumer debt than we have now. FYI, this country's crtedit card debt is at an alltime high, so that will compound matters worse. Perhaps some pre-election manuevering by the powers that be will keep us in our gas guzzlers.

I still see many SUV's on the road in my area, and just about ALL of them consider the gas pedal an on and off switch, both in acceleration and cruising speeds hitting the 100 mph speed restrictors.
These are the same people that distort the Atkin's diet by claiming high cholesterol counts and sued McD's for becoming lard-balls over their own nutritional ineptitude. I LOOOOOOVE that diesel smokescreen. It really pi$$es off tailgating Exploders so much that they give me the bird and blink their lights almost simultaneously. WooHoo!!

Help me on this one. I've never understood the logic that says it is a preferable value to sell one car or truck, pay thousands for another car or truck, to save maybe 20% on fuel. Of course buying a new depreciable asset does help the economy.....

I considered keeping the Jeep as it is in good shape and almost paid off. My reasoning:
It not a high quality care IMHO. It rattles, it pings, it remings me of the ****ty American cars of the 80's. I have had a bunch of littel things go wrong that were increasingly aggravating: Water pump at 40k AC leak repair at 70K The AC sucks in this torrid heat The rear tail lights are alway blowing out. Oh did I mention rattles from door panels and such? I would rather know that I can get 150 more miles more per tankful out of the Accord if/when gas gets more expensive than it is. I firmly believe we will continue to see gas prices rise(Lou Dobbs CNN all this week at 11pm) and this and any SUV will have less and less value. The irony is that my sister wants to buy it from me..........
