Silly really - I bet the class car "industry" is having a pretty hard time at the moment. I wonder how much tax income they lost by doing this. Quote:
I'm going to cut some holes and keep on that welding learning curve I've put myself on and see how it goes.

I'd like to get it fixed mainly so it doesn't get wasted and chucked away like the rest of the stuff due to the "little d" but I don't want to get too too carried away with this project (says he standing in ankle deep car parts, nuts, bolts and washers) - at the moment it is an opportunity to practice welding in my spare time. Due to non motoring circumstances it has been relegated to learning piece.

I look at the car as an alternative to seeing a therapist.

Don't get discouraged, yours is in much better shape that mine was when I scrapped it. I only scrapped it because the transmission/axles/climate control/interior/body was shot (hence saving the engine and fuel tank

You always have the best picture-progress projects.
I'm thinking my Sleeper Part Deux may end up the route you are taking. Very, very scared to start peeking and poking at the rust spots since they grow and grow and grow. However, you are proving courage to the weak at heart. Any chance you could take some snappies of the floorpans from under the car, especially the area where the floor makes the 2" step by the back seat? My greatest fears ... LOL Great work BTW ! |

My W123 saloon / sedan old accident repair (and a bit of rust repair) thread It isn't pretty. It seems to me all Mercedes rot in the corners of the floor pans given half a chance...

Progress is slow
Holes on the floor pan and the bulkhead are being plugged ![]() I've now found rust on the lower sill spot welded lap joint on both sides of the car. I've ordered replacement sills that should be here tomorrow. BTW, can you make a favor? This car of yours looks exactly like the same model of mine. Yesterday I lost the AC compressor bolts on the way and I don't remember how they goes into the mounting. Can you take pics of it mounted or explain me how to do it? how long the bolts are and nuts, how they are attached?
The Hayes manual has another AC compressor mounting and I didn't found any pics similar. I don't understand well what is your problem w taxes in Holland, but here in Costa Rica I pay $180 USD for taxes plus $20 for a RTV (technical revision) yearly for my w123.130. That's all. |
