Sunroof on '87 300TD

I have a question about sunroofs.

I recently had mine partialy fail.

I popped it "up" and after closing it now it won't "retract" into the roof. It still pops up and down just not back and...

death by rust

My '73 220D (nearly the same as your 240D) died by body rust.

The drive train was working very well with 175K miles since a rebuild and 340K miles on the car. What happened was the front top...

torque converter drain

Its my understanding that all MB automatics have a torque converter drain and that it should be used for a complete fluid change.

Both my 300's have had this ('79 & '87) and my mechanic always...

fuel milage for a 300TD

I get from 25 (around town) to 30 (conservative highway) MPG using dino-diesel in mine.

It should not be slugish at all.

I have about the same miles showing (171K now).

It could be a number...

With my current 300TD I get 28-30 on the highway...

With my current 300TD I get 28-30 on the highway if I drive conservatively. It goes down to 25-26 for city driving (short trips with lots of stop & go).

With the '79 300D I only got around 23-24...

MB shops in SLC

I have to agree that German Car Service is a good place.

I have had Werner and now Melvin do my "hard mechanic" stuff (I do my own light service items) since I bought my first Benz from Werner in...

biodiesel in a '87

I'm going to try using some biodiesel in the near future.

Only problem is there isn't any available anywhere in Utah so I have to get it from Colorado.

I was thinking of trying the B20 (I'll be...

a/c in a w124

I have to agree that the a/c system is very costly to repair if not working.

One of the things to look for is if the center vents open properly. If they don't then complete removal of the dash is...

speaking of rare...

MB claims that 265 of the 1987 300TD's were 4 wheel drive.
Has anyone seen one of those in the USA?
I think that all were kept in europe, maybe like Switzerland or Austria (somewhere in the alps).

the cost of a BLACK car!

Well I've had "darker" colored cars.

I will only have a white (maybe silver or light yellow/tan) car from now on!

Lots of extra strain on the A/C with the "darker" ones.

cost of refridgerant

Well MOST of the $1000 was to sort out the gawd-awful vacuum lines that the previous owner let get dissolved by the battery acid!
(ever seen where the climate control vacuum lines run in a '79...

what to replace?

From my other postings (seems like a lot on A/C systems today) I would replace all the systems hoses as long as you have the system apart. Also I would change over to R134a. You do have to have a...

R134a conversion

I don't know why anyone has had problems with converting an older Benz to R134a.

Both my current '87 300TD and my previous '79 300D were converted to R134a. My mechanic did both and there were no...

'70s 300D

Well I would say that 2K CDN is way too much.
I sold my '79 300D for under 1K US and it had a new battery, started easily, had almost no rust and got 2K miles per quart of oil (had a little leak...

I've never owned any Japanese car but my wife swears by Subaru. Her 2000 Outback Ltd is a nice car and so far no noticable wind noise or rattles (52K on it). This is her 3rd Subaru all of them the...

I thought that the last diesel wagon MB brought into the US was in '87. Is that what you have? A diesel wagon made in '98? Where did you get that?
