The problem could be a mis-adjusted injector pump. My 83 300D shook till you would get sick. I had my mechanic look at it and he adjusted the timing on the injector pump. No more shaking.

Sounds like a dead battery to me. Your alternator could not have been charging the electric system enough and drained the battery when you drove it around the other day. Today, dead battery no start....
