The car has to be running, then push the button on the dash panel. Mine were vacuum operated as I recall. It needs the engine running to create the vacuum for the system.

18 inch might be too big, depending on tire sidewall height. As long as all 4 wheels and tires are the same size, 4Matic will be fine. The bigger thing to look for is if it hits the fender well...
