I just learned that my '81 300D has a transmission out of a '84 or '85 500SEC, behind a 617. ??? motor.

Also, the engine numbers are missing. The 617 are stamped clearly, but the rest of the stamping are is bare. I wire brushed it, and it does not look as if there were ever other numbers there.
