How about a current update of time, place and agenda.
DATE: Jan 10, 2009 Rain or Shine
TIME: I saw 6 to 7 and 8 to 9. Just confirm one or the other. I sure don't want to be late. Even worse I don't want to be early. They have a Security guard named George I think.
LOCATION: I know it's the Mercedes Classic Center in Irvine. I remember it is north of the San Diego Freeway, I-405 but hit me with an address if you can. I'm not too Tech so I will pop the address in Map Quest and Google Earth just to see who is in the parking lot.
AGENDA: Will we meet and greet for an hour or two to allow for late comers, war stories and out right lies? I have two new ones Jim and Charlie haven't heard.
PROPOSED ROUTE: to La Canada Flintridge and the Angeles Crest Cal Route 2. ( Something like I-405 to I-605 to I-210, Or any other proposed route where I can be out run by all the speedy diesels and gassers?
Will there be a finial destination or intermediate stop? Red Box Ranger Station, some ones special parking lot, overlook, restaurant or the like.

Here is a crazy question. Should I pack a lunch? I did one of these one time and the lead guy was so intense he didn't stop driving until about three in the afternoon. By that time we were down by about half the cars and I was a bit hungry.

I'm getting a little excited. I might go out and sit in the car and pretend I can keep up with the croud.

Jim and I are going to be there Friday afternoon. Jim maybe, before me. At least I will. I'll be staying at the Hotel Menage and I think Jim will be as well. if you book there, ask for the online rate (Expedia = $89.00 a night.)

If we do Angeles Crest, no one will run off from you. Now the 605 may be another story, but I'll try to lag behind as I know the route at least to the Pick nick area at at Angeles Forest Hwy and Angeles Crest Hwy. Drive those routes often, I have never been on east of Angeles Forest Hwy on ACH. There seems to be a slew of diesels on this GTG, so i think either way you'll be in good company.

SEC of choice

Charlie,

Drive whichever car you wish. I'll keep up. I'm going to change the air in my tires later this week.

I sent a e-message to Jim and am waiting for his reply.

Do you think you will be available for dinner on the 9th? I know sometimes Jim has several appointments when he comes south.

Checked that hotel and the restaurant looks interesting. Checked the rates and was offered $93.00. Not too bad with only a week out.

Charlie, what's the best route from the Classic Center to Angeles Crest? That way in case people get lost or join our caravan from their respective locations they know where to find us.

Post The Crest Route

It's simple ~ go North to the I-210 ans in La Canada , take Rt 2 North , either pull over at the North end of the bridge or drive up a mile and there's a pullout on the right , you'll see the gaily colored parade of old Mercedes hove into view....

You'll not get left behind if you pin the throttle like all good Dieselheads go once a month or so...

Wait ~ you're driving a M-110 gasser , right ? hell , you'll run right past even the Euro Spec. '85's...

M-110 gasser? Wasn't me

Thanks for the heads up on directions. I'm getting my car washed tomorrow. Or Friday.

Tyler, whereabouts will you have your car washed?

Well fellas, the tables have turned. I am now 95% sure I will not make this gathering. Job and family obligations have not worked out in my favor. But the I think I still have 5% on the eleventh hour to make this. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
