We should all follow his example....So often we go through life and never realize the potential we have to make a positive impression...

Wow, so sorry to hear this. Phil was always a great guy, so fast to get what I needed and always made it feel like it was priority #1. I cant say I ever had an issue with an order he placed, because if there was ever an inaccuracy or something not right, he had it fixed in seconds.

He will be sorely missed... This is such sad news, as he was so young.

I am full of grief and pain as I type this. Last night I kept calling his work line to listen to his voice on his answering machine and when I called this afternoon I saw that it had been transfered. I decided to check here and was moved by the kind words from all of you. I cannot for a second express what an amazing man my dad was. The man who cared so much about your parts was the man I watched my whole life live and love people in that very way. Every ridiculous worry I had or dumb thing I came to him with he greeted with concern, love and like you all have noticed, made my problems his problems. I have to say he cared so much about all of you. I used to laugh at him as he went on and on about all the wonderful people he got to talk to on a daily basis and got so much joy out of helping others. My grandfather used to say my dad "never met a stranger". That was a statement I never understood as a kid but now know is true. He was so geniune, so loving and so wonderful. What you saw is what you got, nothing fake. He was exactly the same way at home as he was on that phone with his customers. I can't even breathe to picture a world without him in it. He was my confidant, my rock, who I turned to when I hurt. I am hurting now and he is gone. Everyone would always say "Phil would give you the shirt off his back" and one day he actually did, I kid you not. I watched him take his shirt off and give it to someone who didn't have one and it was cold. Thank you, all of you truly for your kind words. I needed to see that others loved him as much as he loved you all.

And Im glad that you did. Im sure as others see this they will pour in more words. I only did business with your father from 2002 onward, but from day 1 it was as if he knew me and what I needed for all time, like we went back for years. He truly was a remarkable guy, for as minimal that we ever knew him for in this small sliver of life that was MB parts. He loved it, we loved him, yet it was just such a small aspect of what makes life wonderful, and I can only imagine what a great guy he was when you knew him for real, in real life, above and beyond our small common thread of car parts.

So sorry for your loss, I can not imagine the sorrow you must feel, and just pray that you find comfort and hope in knowing just how loved your father was, and how much he helped so many in just this one element of life, let alone all the others that he surely did.

Wow I am in shock, just talked to Phil on Tuesday about some parts. I tried calling him back several times today to no avail to check some other options. He was the typical great guy on the phone as always. Never had a chance to meet in person but we have spoke many times on the phone over the years. I wish the best to his family and friends. He will be missed.

Wow, this hits hard to the community, although I'm sure much more to family. Phil was a "founding father" of this site, and of the community. Phil genuinely restored my faith in the aftermarket automotive industry (this is after spending a few years in it myself in parts retail/sales). He convinced me that there were in fact, people with similar interests with a genuine passion to help another. Phil would not hesitate to help any one of us out at the drop of a hat, and showed true love for what he did...heck he tried to retire and came back! To Phils daughter and the rest of your family, my sincere and deepest condolences. I and the rest of the MB community will absolutely keep you in our prayers, Phil was truly one of the most dedicated and helpful people I've met. I'm sure he's relishing in gullwings and thinking up ways to throw diesel engines in up above us! Take care, I am truly sorry to hear of his passing.

I didn't know you Phil, only had quick conversations a few times in connection with Mercedes Benz parts ordered.

All best to the family, fiancee and young Jennifer.

RIP Phil

I never spoke to him on the phone but I have read of his legacy here on the forum. I am saddened to hear of his passing. I wish I had the opportunity to speak to him. He sounds like a true human being. May God rest his soul and his time in the promised land be more prosperous than here on earth.

I believe that God created this earth and humans to prepare them for his paradise. Some people lead a life of self-absorption and others lead a life of giving. Phil lead a life of giving, so I am without doubt he is living on in heaven and close to God. May none of us see Phil again for a long time to come for if we do; we take solace, for we are in paradise.
