Have any of you 300E owners out there had a temperamental alarm? About one out of every 10 times I unlock the driver's side door and pull on the door handle, the alarm goes off. I've learned to quickly relock and unlock to shut off the alarm.

What could be causing this?

its probobly your lock see if it dose it by unlocking the passenger side. until you get it fixed you can disconnect the horn. 2 minuite job with a screw driver.
good luck,

Adam:

Thanks for the reply. I'll try your suggestion. It never happens when I open the trunk first.

I too have had this problem with my 300E. What I found worked (and I have no idea why) was that I have two different keys onw ith a red dot and one without (i think this is the valet key?). I found that if i locked the door with the valet key and unlocked the door with the regular key the alarm wouldnt go off. Otherwise the alarm would go off sporadically. Eventually I just disconnected the alarm.

Probably doesn't help you much...however it's probably good to know you aren't the only one!

I had the same problem. I tried cleaning the look, lubricating, etc, etc. I ended up changing the lock with a new one from MB. It took about 1-2 weeks to arrive. It comes with a new key (will fit the rest of your locks) and the lock for around $200. I figured it was either that, or buying an aftermarket keyless entry alarm for more than $200. I decided to keep it stock.
No more problems...

I have a similar problem with my "88 300E. My alarm will go off if the car is locked and I open the trunk first (with the key). No problem if I open the doors first. Any ideas?

My dad's 94 sl 600 has similar issues, but when he took it to the dealer, they tested it and couldn't find any problems, but we know there is one as if he lockes the car the trunk wont lock unless he uses the key, and if he unlocks the car without unlocking the trunk with the key as well it will go off. Dealer checked it twice and found no problems but it just doesn't work right.

He's taking it back to them yet again to have it checked again. I told him it seems like the trunk lock has a vaccum leak, as it doesnt lock witht he rest of the car, but the dealer says its fine..

Seems strange, definately a sign of car mechanic syndrome. ya know something is wrong, but the mechanic can't find anything worng, but the moment ya leave it starts showing the problem. and when ya take it back it works as it should... hehe

If this behavior only occurs when you use the driver's door lock cylinder, then you probably have a bad microswitch in that lock. You can either have the cylinder replaced, or you can disable the alarm system. It's your call. BTW, if you only disconnect the horn, the lights will still be flashing..
