86 300E shifter

Can anyone tell me if the shifter on this model has a bearing that can wear out. I've noticed that when I hit a big pothole or a big enough bump, my shifter tends to move to in between neutral and drive. ALso, I've noticed that when in reverse I have to move the shifter closer to park to getmy reverse lights to come on. Is this possible? If so, can this be replaced by myself or does it have to go to the shop.
