124 Shifter movement

Often when I drive, I hold on to the automatic shifter.

Sometimes when I put on the breaks, I can feel the shifter move slightly in my hand. The same phenomena happens when I then hit the gas.

1989 300e. This doesn't affect driveability, but I am wondering if a bushing or mount is needed somewhere along the driveline.

Lee, this is torque, the transmisison mounts are rubber as not to transfer vibration to the frame and make for an uncomfortable ride, when you accelerate or brake the drivetrain torques and would shift a little back and forth, If it was my car I would jack up and inspect the mounts, tighten them and be good to go.

i will have to do that....

Are you suggesting both the motor and transmission mounts could by slilghtly loose?

That would be an easy fix.... I am strongly considering changing the motor mounts anyway....

Yes, check for loose or broken motor and transmisison mounts and check the frames that support the transmission mounts, my guess is that they are just loose and not seperated,

thank you... it will probably have to wait just a couple of weeks for some warmer weather... the garage floor is still a bit chilly.

Thank you for your suggestions and help.
