Can even a bonehead replace an entire interior??

I just bought an 87 300E w/ a Palomino interior in B- condition. My mechanic has a 95 that's been wrecked but the interior is mint, though it's gray. Which would match the car (white over gray), but which would mean not just replacing the three or four things I would want to replace on my car (namely front seat upholstery, inside door panels, some trim), but the entire interior.

So can a guy with a few tools and zero car interior restoration experience do this?? It can sit in the garage for a while, so patience isn't an issue - but I'd rather not have, say, the front seat fly off it's mounting because I don't know what i'm doing....I've worked on motors before, so it's not about learning how to use a wrench, but still.

Or am I better off to pay the mechanic to do it?

Or just to hold out for the parts I need (he's willing to sell the whole package for $600)?

Thoughts? Resources?

Thanks.

First, confirm that the 1987 and 1995 interiors are interchangeable. I expect that the door panels, rear deck, carpet and seats would be straightforward, but the dash, center console, headliner and pillar trim will present a challenge. $600 sounds like a steal for the entire 1995 interior. Check what a bodyshop would charge for swapping the interiors for you versus doing the difficult items only ... the dash, center console, headliner and pillar trim which require more experience and skill.

The B and C pillar trim will need some modifications in order to fit.
