Fuel issues on 450 SL

I had a fuel pump relay go bad, so I ordered and installed a new relay. Now, once in awhile while driving the car looses power, just as if running out of gas. If I just stay calm the gas must start flowing again in 5 to 10 seconds and the engine comes back to life and I keep on my way. This has happened three or four times and not every time I drive it. Any ideas on if the relay would be acting up or the fuel pump?

I am also interested if I take the car to the MB dealer can they give the fuel and electrical system a check over to make sure things are operating correctly or does something have to be wrong? The car only has 75,000 miles and I would like to start restoring it as much as I can.

I have to take it to a dealer so they can inspect the A-frames, for a recall that was never done. Would it be a good idea to have them go ahead and replace the bushing as they are 30 years old?

Thanks for any help and/or advise.
Doug

450sl problems

I have a 450sl 1977 and have had similair problems. First, the subframe (on recall ifyou know about it!) developed crack, local garage found it, dealer did not advise!! Also did not correct when in for previous service! After a lot of pressure got partial reimbursement from mercedes. If subframe ok? check bushings, replace if needed. If new subframe, get new bushings installed by mercedes (at reduced cost). If original fuel pump at 70,000 miles, suggest replace pump and filter. I cost me over $1000 at cheater mercedes dealer to finally do this AFTER HIS LOUSY REPAIR). good luck, Abe G

450SL problems

Thanks Abe. I was thinking possible fuel filter, however I thought it odd this to happen right after I replace the relay. I will change both out and get it over with. As for the A-frame, I just recieved the recall notice last week so will call and see when I can get it in for them to look at.
Thanks again
Doug
