88 Mercedes 190E 8 Valve Stalling

My friends 88 Mercedes 190E was running fine. Drove it to gas station and when trying to leave, the car would start but had no power. It would idle for 10 to 15 seconds and then would shut off. Every attempt to start the same thing happened, car would start for 10 seconds or so and then cut out. FYI: The air cleaner assembly was broken and allowed dirt to enter into the throttle body intake, crankcase vapors from pcv valve have also coated the intake. He has replaced fuel pump, filter, and accumulator so far with no luck starting. He is currently obtaining manual for fuel injection system but he needs car now. Help!

If it were my car I would carefully clean the intake area. Be very careful not to push the air flow sensor around. Use multiple rags, possibly damp with carb cleaner.

Do you hear the fuel pump in the right rear of the car when you turn the key on to the on position? Important as to whether pump is delivering, new or not. It sounds like it might be a bad fuel pump relay.

I used the search feature on this site with the Key Word(s): "190e, start, die"
and came up with these results. Check them out.

Additionally, you may want to see my posting regarding bleed the fuel lines at the fuel distributor. This can be very dangerous so extreme caution must be exercised. If in doubt, don't do it. With my past old 87 190e this kept the engine running.

You didn't post how many miles but your injectors could also be plugged. You may want to try a double-dose of Techron Fuel Injector cleaner (not fuel system) in less than a half tank. If you can keep the engine running with operating the throttle by hand this can help clean out crud.

Keep us posted,

Haasman

88 mercedes stalling at the gas station

Here's what we found out. The gas station that my friend purchased his gas from had a delivery that morning and the truck driver hauling the fuel put the diesel fuel in the high test tank buried in the ground. 30 to 40 people also had the same problem. You just never know. We can fix this though, or should I say they can fix it. Thanks for the advise on the car!
