Trying once again to diagnose a hot re-start 560sl after wife had to drive me to pick it up at 6 in the am after it wouldn't re-start after a short trip to WMT. Today a replaced the coil and went to dinner. The car sat for 2 hours then started right up, but 30 secs later stalled. Luckily, I was able to get it to start after about 5-6 frantic cranks. Made it home uneventfully.
I was looking for clues in the previous owners files and found the same problem about 75k miles ago. The previous mechanic apparently replaced the brushes on the alternator. I found no other references to the problem after that.
Is there any way an alternator could have anything to do with a no start or hot stall condition? i'm willing to try just about anything at this point.
Thanks.
