1995 E320 Door Lock Quirk

Interesting quirk:

The door locks work perfectly when the doors are closed from either the inside or ouside (i.e. they all lock or unlock when one plunger is pressed down or the key is turned from any door) but when the driver side door is open, I cant get the plunger to depress and lock the doors. The passenger side door allows me to do this, so I'm not sure what the problem is....

From reading similar threads on here, maybe this is some sort of vacuum problem? if so, where, and how hard is it to fix? Thanks

Thats a safety feature to prevent you from locking your keys in the car it must be key locked at the drivers door... ingenious really.

I don't know but it was always one of those little things that seemed to prove mercedes superior. like replaceing bulbs in the headlamps instead of big glass housings...

Now I feel kinda stupid.......

Anyway, it would be kinda nice to just press that down getting out of the car instead of having to key lock it, but i see the logic in the design nonetheless

Thanks for the help.....

John

no need to...
Your just a better man than me because if it didn't work that way I would be in some parking lot with a coat hanger f***ing up the rubber seal on the door.

Key? Who uses a key?

Do some research here and you should be able to install a keyless entry system
