My 1990 300ce power window makes rapid thud noises when it reaches the top and will not completly seal. What work is entailed and can a shadetree mechanic do the work or is it best left to the benz people?
Thanks

I would consider it a

diy'er. It is kinda cumbersome working with the lift mechanism in the door but it is doable if you have the proper manual, follow the instructions and take your time. Sounds to me (get a 2nd opinion from a tech though) like the mechanical lift mechanism is getting tired.

I am doing that right now. I have the same problem. Had the problem fixed 2 yrs ago by dealer. All he did was weld. It says on the receipt. I looked what they did. No welding, just replaced slide jaw clips on both sides. A DIY can do it, but it is cumbersome and takes awhile. I have the same symtoms and it is the window regulator on my car. 5 teeth are sheared off on the regulator. It is time consuming and you have to be careful not to break anything when taking apart. I don't suggest it, even with the CD manual. Even the dealer bent the door handle when they did repairs. I am going to have to replace that also. I am replacing myself, because I have more than one problem in the door area and want to make sure everything is corrected. Also, to install parts and everything you kind of need to know what you're doing. You can easily lose the glass in the door or lose a finger, if you open the window, while hands or fingers in there. Unless, you know what you're doing and are patient. I don't suggest it. I prefer not to do this, but kind of have no choice.

Question: Do the windows in your 300CE open slightly when the door is opened? Mine don't but appearantly they are supposed to. I think I am having a problem with my convenience cheontrol module.
