4 pin to 5 pin temp display
I need to identify the color to number of 4 pin outside temperature display. Put in a new 5 pin display unit and lost track of color to number of wire. Also what color or number wire goes to witch number pin on the 5 pin unit. "87 300TDT. Many thanks for the posts on replacing vaccum units for CC. Mario3

Here's some service manual docs on the temp display retrofit:
http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/W124/LCD_temp_testing.pdf (0.7MB PDF) http://www.w124performance.com/docs/mb/W124/LCD_temp_install.pdf (2.2MB PDF) That should answer your questions. About the climate control pods, here's a link to an extensive thread with photos, in case you hadn't seen it: W124 climate control vacuum pod replacement |

gsxr...your contributions on the vacuum pods is invaluable.
I am slowly accumulating the pods as budget allows and hope to accomplish this job over the thanksgiving break. right now, I just think I have a center pod issue... get a consistent "thump-thump-thump" after a while it seems to go away, but very little air comes from the center vents. I will replace all vacuum pods...I was considering striking the foot pods from the list since it doesn't get too cold here in South Carolina... any thoughts?

I would not do the footwell pods or defrost pods if they are working. You can change those without removing the dash. If you pull the dash, you should change all the pods that *require* dash removal... that would be the center vent, diverter, and both recirc pods. I just ordered all four of these last week to replace on my 300E, current cost for the four is approx $125. Not cheap, but worth the trouble, IMO... especially if you live in a warm climate!!
I'm not sure what would cause the thumping, but if you are getting very little air from the center vents, it's pretty likely the pod is toast. You can verify by testing at the 7-port manifold behind the glovebox though. |

I think the thumping is a torn diaphragm...
so you only have to replace 4 then, correct. if it's not too much trouble could you post the mb part numbers. I have already ordered two piece and have them on the bench in my garage. I try to budget only about 60 dollars a month for repairs and supplies...so it takes some time to get everything.... plus I keep up two w124's. Without this forum, I might be driving Honda's

You are correct - just replace the 4 'difficult' ones all at the same time. The others (footwell & defrost) can be done at any time if they fail later on (assuming they are OK now). I edited the first post on the original thread, linked below... all the part numbers are now there:
