Passenger Door

Hello all
I am removing the door on my '83 300sd in order to fix the window motor. The fuse keeps blowing on this window. I have the door inside taken off about 90% of the way. Everything wants to come off but the only part that seems to be stuck in is the left end of the arm rest. Any thoughts? This is also the area of the latch to open the door. I am so close but dont want to break the whole door apart. Thanks!

DK

You are taking only the interior portion of the door panel off aren't you?

As I view the MB Service Manual Chasis and Body Series 123, Volume 2, it describes the piece behind the interior latch as the "liner". This is removed by prying from the forward end. That is the end away from the arm rest/handle. Once that pops off there should be a screw within the exposed recess. After removal of that screw you should be able to remove the top grip (arm rest/handle) screw. From there you are supposed to remove the two arm rest screws found along the bottom portion of the arm rest. Does this help or are you beyond this point?

Wow thanks. I was able to remove the inside panel of the door. Now I need to find out the screw driver that works to remove the screws from both sides of the motor. They are weird. There is three or four triangles on one side and then a half a circle on the other. Thanks again so much for the help getting the inside door off.

???
I am again looking at the manual . . . I am not seeing anything other than typical bolt heads that need to be removed. The exception is the two screws holding the four electrical wires (two posts, two screws). I wish I knew of a thread that shows the photos I am looking at because it is quite straight forward. I have chicken on the grill and I had better not burn it or else dinner will be . . .

I'll get back to you.

The motor and gear assembly comes out as one piece. I think 3 bolts holds it in place. You will need to unsolder the wire connections I did mine at the switch. The switch comes apart easy.Pay attention where each wire goes. I had bad wires on both my 84 in the door jambs. After years of opening and closing the doors the wires broke.

Okay. Chicken is on its own for a few minutes.

Run the window down and remove front screw on window lift rail. It should appear to be an odd shape nearly flat piece with a single bolt. If the b&w photo leads me in the right direction, there is a portion of the power lift that is likely black in color right near it.

Remove the rear bolt on the window lift rail. That one should be seen through an oblong hole with a the bolt passing through a plate similar to the one above.

Raise the window and hold with a wedge or something capable of holding it up.

Disconnect the electric wires at the black connector. The connector should be held with two phillips head screws and the wires by (according to the photo) straight head screws. Mine on my '87 were also phillips so I don't know if the photo I am looking at is accurate.

Unscrew the front nuts on the window lift and both rear bolts on the window lift.

Remove the window lift with motor downwards.

That should do it but don't hesitate to ask for clarification.
Steve

Back to my chicken.

Thanks for all the help. I will try the motor on a battery tomorrow to see if it still works and if the whole problem is just a bad wire. The fuse blows when I try the window so it may be a shorted out wire cuz I think the fuse would still be good and the window would just not work if the motor was shot. Thanks again everyone. I really appreciate all the nice people.

Doug, I recently fixed the motor to my front passenger window on my 82 SD. I disassembled the motor by unscrewing the motor from the window lift mechanism, after I took it out with the mechanism. I was expecting I would have to get another motor. However, when I took the motor apart, I found that the lower bushing that guides the rotor was really rusty. There's a spring metal clip that holds it into the bottom of the motor casing. Prying carefully with a screwdriver freed it. I cleaned out the area, relubed the bushing with lightweight oil and reassembled. The window moves faster and stronger than it did when I bought the car 9 years ago. Good luck!
