First, make sure your battery voltage is within spec. Low voltages can cause all sorts of faulty code generation. Second, verify the condition of the fuses in the Base Module. Have you tried clearing the codes and seeing if new codes are generated? One problem that many MB's suffer from is deteriorating wire insulation. The insulation in my MAF harness and within the passenger side Electronic Throttle Actuator was cracked and falling off. This caused Check Engine lights, surging at idle, etc. Check out my web page for details and what to look for. Click on the link below my signature. Also, JimF's web page is full of good info, and it relates specifically to your engine.

I tested all 4 fuses in the Base Module, all checked okay.
The battery voltage is good. I disconnected the battery 2 days ago to clear the fault codes, I guesss this didn't work. I do not know how to clear the codes in Base Module or EA module...., very poor gas mileage. This problem started about month and half.

No CEL light and no ASR light, just very low power, can't go up hill and sometimes very rough in low idle.

Where can I download a wiring diagram or schematics for this car?

Thank you again for your help.

I don't think disconnecting the battery will clear the codes. You will need to look at JimF's web page...

http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_X11.html

and build the home brew blinker box. This tool is invaluable when trouble shooting the systems in this car. A manual with all the codes can be bought from JimF as well. Alternately, a subscription to Alldata will also have all the codes, as well as all the wiring diagrams (and more) for this car. If you do decide to purchase a subscription to Alldata, may I ask that you use the Alldata link on my website? I get a small commission that way. I have found Alldata extremely useful, it has everything I've needed for my 95 S600. I still think you should check the wiring of the MAF and the ETA too.

I think removing a battery cable will reset all the codes except the SRS codes. Be sure you have your radio codes and know how to initialize your express window function.

I would worry about the CAN code from ASR to EA/CC/ISC and the Air mass meter codes. The CAN code could just be a stored code. Only current codes will effect running. See if the codes reset instantly and it would definitely help to build a impulse counting and erasing tool.

Cleared all codes in the modules, thanks to Jim's advice and web site.
Road tested my car, still has the same problem, very low power, erratic idle and CEL is OFF.

Rechecked modules, no codes, all tested with no faults in system.
Inspected the wiring harness, found a very bad wiring harness. The wiring harness connected to the AIR MASS METER (wires near the connector) are touching each other, with no insulation. Temperorary repaired the wires and road test again, now, I can go over 40mph uphill.

Do you know where I can buy a new wiring harness for the AIR MASS METER?
Or buy the connector, so I can build a new harness.

Pcmaher is correct, the wiring harness is bad on the W140, I suggest the owner of the W140 inspect this harness. It probably has the same problem.

I'm pretty sure that the AMM harness is part of whats called the engine harness on the body, as opposed to the engine harness on the engine. It turns out that MB sells just the part going to the AMM separately. On this one EPC I have at home it shows 140 540 00 36. I would definitely verify that number, before using it.

The AMM connector can be purchased seperately. Part number for the connector is 140 540 00 81. I'm pretty sure a connector / harness kit is available as well, but I don't have the part number for that. I do know that it is NOT 140 540 47 05. That is the Engine and Injector Wiring Harness. The AMM connector can be rewired. I did mine, and I was able to use the old connector.
