I haven't been on the board for a while. Things look different (GREAT!!) Thanks to all who spend time making this forum available to all of us. I'm not sure how to search the archive any more though...

I have an '89 300E and the driver side sun visor fell off. There's a bare stem on the sun visor side. My mom has an '8g 190E 2.3 (W201) and the same thing happened to me while I was driving it this evening! What's that all about?

NOW, THE QUESTION! Does anyone have a good fix for this? I'm a fairly competent MacGyver kinda guy and am interested in fixing these rather than replacing them.

I'm open to all reasonable suggestions. Don't want to go to a dismantler if I can avoid it.

If I understand you correctly, the sun visor itself has the bare stem poking out?

Unscrew and remove the plastic socket from the roof and you'll see how the stem should lock into position. The plastic housing is probably be cracked which is why the stem won't stay in place any more.

I imagine that the most effective repair for this component would be an external circlip in the correct size, but seeing as you probably don't have one of those, a tightly secured cable tie round the housing will work just as well.
