SRS/RS sensor mounted underneath centre console

Does anyone know whether the SRS/RS sensor mounted on the tunnel underneath the centre console has to be mounted flat? I'm missing the bracket for it, and wonder whether I can mount it directly on the tunnel.. The alternative is to weld/screw a flat bracket onto it... I'm thinking that it doesn't really matter as a car doesn't stay the same height over time anyways (lowering, wear, load, etc)..

In short; Can the sensor be mounted like this:

Or does it have to be mounted like this:

Does anyone have any pictures showing how it is mounted originally?

PS: Due to the angle of the pictures, it looks like the first one shows the flat one - that's not correct, the second one is the one closest to being flat
