I had mentioned before in this forum that there is this rattling noise in the interior of my new C240 that the dealer could not detect. I finally found the problem. It was the right front passenger seat that causing the problem. When I tap the seat cushion with my fingers, there is this rattling noise coming from under the seat.

I am bringing my car back to the dealer for them to fix the problem next week. However, I would still like to know what is the probable cause of the rattling noise that comes from under the seat. Is it loose springs or is it the loose seat frame or is it loose wiring harness that located under the seat frame that cause the rattles? Any ideas?

Also, the centre console creaks a lot these days. It happens while I am driving over uneven surface as well as smooth surface. I am not sure if it is due to the cold weather temperature? Is there anything that I can do to tighten up the centre console other than letting the dealer to fix the problem? I am not sure if the dealer can even fix the creaking noise coming from the centre console.

Any suggestions or advise are kindly apprciated. Thanks very much!

Advice? Stay in their face until you get satisfaction. Don't give them the slightest hint that you will back down.

You paid lots of what I expect is hard earned money for this car, if they can't fix it, they owe you another car.

This is MB's problem, not yours, stick to your guns.

I agree. I have gone through this with my CLk, and have been back so many times I lost count. Eventually even the rather lame excuse for a service dept at this dealer was able to replace enough components to quiet the car (almost)
If you leave it until the warranty for "adjustments" runs out (I think 20,000 km) you may be S.O.L.
Sorry to hear there are other that have to go through this frustration, but the only way MB finds out and will do anything about it is if the customers tell them, and are persistant.

That's a good point. If their (MBZ)
quality control is messing up, they need the feed
back ! You are doing them the favor and they
should reap the rewards by not allowing their
product to become a detroit- fall apart
in no time vehicle (with all due respect to
the select U.S. vehicles that are good).

I hope this is NOT the same problem that the ML's had when they first came out. I love the look of the new C but, it is not right time yet...Larry how is your C holding up? or anybody with a new C, for that matter.

I have had a C240 for a day and a half now and nothing has failed yet. But it was a factory exec car with 9k miles, so maybe the problems were worked out beforehand.

I put 100 miles on it so far. No squeaks or rattles.

OTOH I am a longtime Saab owner, still have a very good 9000 as a second car. I also owned a 89 Peugeot 405 Mi16 for a while.
A blast to drive. Unfortunately when you took it to a car wash the computer shorted out making the car unusable until the computer dried out or was replaced (this was after Peugeot left the US).

The C240 is a dream to drive (I have the 6 speed). I love the feeling of solidity and the quiet yet sporty ride. There is design and there is execution, they are two different things, unfortunately.
