Steve,
I was just given a thread that led to the greatest info about my car that you wrote.
It's about what the climate control can do! I cannot believe you can get all of that info out of there! Why was this not advertised? You stated that "this info is so interesting that it's a shame it will get buried without being seen by many." You are very right, and let's try and unbury this rather unknown fact!
Ok, now to what I'm asking. You posted all of the code numbers for the S-Class. I was wondering if you could do me the biggest favor and list them for the C-class (1995 preferably, if it matters). Many of the codes were the same, but there are a number of differences.
It is fascinating to be able to tell my RPM digitally! And it's very nice to know that I can check them temp of EVERYTHING in the car and a wealth of other stuff. I hope many people read this post.
Though it's only for 95 & later models.
Thanks Steve, this is great.

This information can be read from the older climate control systems (pre "96) of a C class as well.
I did something similar with my "96 display, just to change the type of engine I have (the system came out of a 36AMG and was installed in a 250 Diesel), but I ended up with a disordered system that had to be reset by the dealer (I could not control most of the vent ducts opening valves anymore) and the display kept running from degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius and back...

Just be aware that it is possible to change the input data when you are messing around with these settings! It is pretty nice though to see what comes up the display...lots of info...

greetingz,

OTHER TECHS

If any other techs have the code list for a 95 C280, feel free to post them. Is there any other way to get this info?

MBENZ...
"Just be aware that it is possible to change the input data when you are messing around with these settings!" What kind of input data can you change? Why and how would you do it??? (not that I necessarily will!)

Hottee,

With the climate control system I have you can set (for example) the type of car you have (R129 or W202), the type of engine that is installed (4/5/6-->12 cylinder, diesel or petrol) and the extension of the display readings (degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius).

I tried to change the motor type (holding the pre "96 instructions in my hand) and ended up with a system that only opened the ventilation ducts to the windscreen whatever my setting of air flow would be. I had the system reset by the dealer (YES, my personally installed "96 airco system can be serviced by the OEM mercedes service compu; the service compu doesn't even see that the airco was not original there).
I don't know how the settings got changed; but then again: I didn't even know what I was doing...(just pushing some switches, getting info, changing motortype...)

greetingz,

So complicated, yet so interesting to find out what these cars can offer. Okay, so with those climate control LCD codes....on a 1993 500SEL, think it might work? We bought the car used, I have not asked the dealer to check upgrade history. But I think I read somewhere that there was a "software upgrade" that was done to S classes back then. I don't know if this has been done, and dont want to accidentally change something in the car...who knows, one wrong push of the Rest button and the fuel door might not unlock two days later!!

So, any insight on the 93 will help also,

Thanks for making this available,

Chris

Give it a try. With ignition in on position, turn climate controls on, then press and hold REST for 5 or so seconds, or until you see an 01 flash then another number will flash (inside temp), then back to one, use the arrow up (defrost) and arrow down (feet) to scroll up and down through the codes. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what each one means!!! And i want to change my speed to MPH from KMH!!

I'll try for sure.

Oh, how do you get out of this mode? or does it just go back to normal when you dont press anything for a little while. and..have you tried to see if #'s actually change in real time..like if you're looking at engine speed code...will the # go up and down as you press on the throttle and so on...

excited, thanks

Hottee,

I only have a one page (German) guide line of the numberous engine codes in combination with the degrees Fahrenheit/Celsius display...

Why do you want to change from miles to kilometers??

To get out of the mode, push the rest button again. If you don't push the rest button, it will stay in that mode until the car is shut off. On cars with dual zone climate control, the number on the left side is the number in sequence while the number on the right side is the actual reading. I believe you also use the right and left auto buttons to cycle through the number on cars with dual climate control.

Chris, like Ali said, press rest button again. And I believe it's all instantaneous. THe only problem is is that is flashes between the number you are on and the reading, so you can see it every OTHER second, for example.

MBENZ, I want to change it from KPH to MPH, sorry if I listed it the other way. And I want to change a few things from C to F. And I don't understand what you listed about your codes in Germand?>

ok, tried it:

1. car running
2. temp wheels to white area
3. pressed left and right auto buttons and waited 20 sec
4. pressed Rest for 5 sec
5. pressed Auto and the numbers appeared.
...so I wrote them down, and they seem normal. The interior temp (#1) is nice too...funny watching it change when I put my hand over the sensor and hearing the AC kick in as the temp increases.

But...it only works once after starting the car, to do it again, I have to turn the car off and back on..no big deal.

I can't do the one for the DTC codes though, and I only get 1 through 9 and #16..not the 50 like in the 95 model S class.

nice to have..I always wanted to know useless gauge readouts...and I hope I dont have to use them to see what might be wrong..

thanks
