'80 280SL Oil Filter Housing

I'm planning on refreshing the cooling system this next week. Rod radiator, thermostat, water pump, etc. The engine presently fitted is a USA M110 without oil cooler fittings. I'd like to install the EURO housing which does have the required fittings and hoses. My questions are:
1. Is it necessary to remove the intake manifold to install the housing and hoses?
2. Are the housing and hoses compatible with the USA intake manifold? I do have the EURO intake and could install it if it would work better.
