I've check the archives, but I don't think I saw my problem come up....When I try to lift the driver's seat, the left side works, but the right doesn't...causing the seat to tilt towards the center console...Everything else works.
1)What's the deal? 2)Is it a DIY? |

This sounds like a broken linkage bar which transmits the lift drive from the motor to both sides of the seat. You are listing to starboard, so I would guess the right side has been damaged. You wil have to remove the seat to examine the drive mechanism. I had this happen on a Jeep Cherokee that I used to own. Had to remove the seat and have the link bar welded. The end had broken off. Good luck.

I have to agree with Jeff.
The motor is placed underneath the seat and controls both sides of the seat adjustment. The bar/link that goes from right to the left has to be damaged somehow (broken coggle left or right or broken link bar). You have to take out the seat to check what the exact problem is. greetingz,

87' 300E Seat Problem
Thanks for your replys. I have plenty of welding buddies, so is there any tricks on removing the seat? Anything special on the repair itself, that I need to know?
Thanks again......Jrock |

You will have to disconnect wiring, seat heaters, etc. Move the seat full rear, remove front bolts. Full front remove rear bolts. Carefully lift out of car. It is heavy, so careful is the buzz word. Upend it and put it on a bench. You will be able to see the problem w/o too much trouble.

seat problem
jrock,
I had a similar problem with the driver's seat on my 87 300e. When I lifted the seat up it would tilt toward the console. The MB dealer said a cable needed to be replaced. When the cable came in, it was the wrong one. The tech working on my car remembered having this problem before. He removed the seat pull cable for rear height adjustment, filled it with grease and re-installed it. He said it may last for a day or it may last longer. That was back in March of '99. It has worked fine since. I'm not sure if this will work for you but it may be worth a look. [Edited by donwo on 03-12-2001 at 10:11 PM]
