SRS light blinky blink, Tele aid light on Battery drained
2003 W210 e320 wagon. Battery drained. Recharged and found the following:
Key out of ingnition: -Tele Aid red light (Ceiling by mirror) always on. When lid opened, and button depressed, tele aid goes into action and attempts connect. Connection fails (not subscribed) and light goes out and then back on. -SRS light bottom right of dash cluster is slowly flashing on and off dimly. -Roadside assistance and information lights in the arm rest are lit up and will not go out. Were not lit up until being pressed, but now will not go out. Have done the big search on SRS and Tele aid. SRS failure due to seat pressure sender, seat belt buckle or even hatch latch. This makes sense, light comes on indicating failure in sensors. No mention of a blinking SRS light and not when key is out of ignition. Tele aid wants to call the mother ship when SRS senses air bag deploy or belt tensioner. This makes sense. Can Tele aid mistakenly sense SRS deploy if SRS is wacky and try endlessly to contact the mother ship until battery drains? It is odd that with the key out that the SRS dash light blinks dimly, the Tele Aid red light is on and the red lights on service and info are also on. The lights are on even when dashboard goes to sleep. Have AllData at my disposal, but no trouble shooting chart for this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If the possible trouble codes were listed, that would be fun, trying to figure it out, but all the trouble codes are alpha numeric and I do not know where to start. Any hint as to SRS codes or Tele Aid codes to at least start processing? Thanks, Marty Wolf |

Thank you Nulu
Both under hood and under seat I assume. Would you have an idea which system would be suspect. Why would a circuit taken out be a blown fuse cause these symptoms? Lack of signal that SRS or Tele Aid is looking for? |

Exactly, just went true similiar problem on 203 and was a missing fuse, key off car shutdown red light on , teleaid needs to see a signal, with fuse out it didint , theis was causing battery drain.

That is great info. I read that there is current through the Tele Aid switch resistor and that pushing switch cuts this and signals call initiation.
I will go over all the fuses tomorrow and report back. I have been combing over AllData but not very satisfying. I assume it is a tele aid malfunction, as the red lights on the communication switches in the arm rest are also on. Wondering why SRS light is dimly blinking, seems odd except that I know the two systems do talk to each other. Thanks again. |

What craziness.
I double checked to be sure the SRS light was indeed slowly blinking with the key out of the ignition and all dash lights out. Yes it was. The Tele Aid light was also on, with key out of ignition. Almost like it is possessed. As per Nulu's instructions, checked for fuse problems, none detected. What the shizzle, maybe start and stop a few times and a few hot laps, maybe the system would reset. Well after a number of cycles on and off and driving a bit, everything seems to be happy again. No SRS light on, not even the slow blink. The Tele Aid light is off when key is out of ignition. There are 2 malfunctions on instrument panel, one is SOS is not connected (always had that) , the other is SOS failure see workshop. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Is SOS failure a big deal or will this clear over time? Thanks. |

I had a similar problem, when I removed the fuse for tel aid I got an error message, I put it back in. MB can program it out, once you push the button it will drive you nuts looking for the non existant system.

So, thought the spirits had settled down. Shut off car, Tele Aid light off, SRS light off. Walk away, everything seems okay. Came back later and looked in to make sure Tele Aid light still off and guess what?
The radio is on. No key in car, radio was off when last shut down. Turned radio off, and now I am wondering how to explain this. Radio code was re entered after battery was hooked back up. Is there something here that sounds familiar to anyone. I know tele aid must talk through the radio, but would it turn on the radio by itself when key is out of car, and no Tele Aid light on? I have read on prior posts that taking the Tele Aid out and disconnecting Tele Aid button was one way of purging the Tele Aid demons, but I hate to remove features. I can not believe the engineers in Germany would put up with this, particularly since it could leave an owner stranded with drained battery. |

We had a car in the shop that contunued to turn radio on when key was off and installing new radio fixed it, however not combined with teleaid light also coming on, check c.a.n wiring

Super Duper: My dad now says the car wont start, ie. battery drained again.
Radio was not on. Tele Aid light not on. Lights on dash go on, but not enough juice to turn over. The battery still looks like new, but should as it lives a rarified life under the back seat. Could this just be a battery on its way out? Is there a drain on the battery that is not shown? Thanks. |

Problem resolved. The original gel battery (27 week, 2002) had given its all. Mercedes Road Side Assistance came out, tested battery, found a bad cell. Replaced with standard lead acid and reset systems. No error codes, and all seems well.
From other forums, it seemed the consensus was that a bad battery can make all sorts of havoc for the can connected systems. So, for 199.00 the Road Side Tech has replaced battery, taken the old one, and re set systems. Could have bought battery elsewhere and installed myself, but really the service and convenience easily make this a great deal. Thanks for everyones input. Amazing that the battery lasted 10 minnesota winters. |

Be careful with charging on these late model vehicles. Always charge the battery with Battery Ground disconnected. Messing around in the battery area can cause the ballistic battery disconnect squib to fire ( If fitted.). On 2000 up the battery monitor in the trunk can be faulty and the secondary battery will set a code...(.for those vehicles with small secondary battery under the cabin air filter. eg: 2000 up e350.) A low voltage will cause havoc with the on board modules and not unusual for a module or two to take a dump from constant low voltage episodes. Modules will go to 'sleep' after 90 seconds or so. Close the door and wait until mileage cluster goes blank to see if system is 'sleeping' Any faulty module in the can/bus network can keep the other modules awake and drain the battery over night. To check the 'sleep' draw you need a Low Amp Probe and look for less than 30mAmps. An ideal reading will be around 20mAmps. Have installed more than enough modules and clusters because someone charged/boosted the battery...Don't boost battery on the vehicle. replace battery or charge with ground disconnected. BTW...Beckmann Tech advised me the day/nigh condensation build up in the cluster area ( connection pins and sockets...) can cause a fault in the cluster causing it to keep everything awake. . .

Facinated...
That "Someone" in Stuttgart can assemble this kind of "Lash-Up" Masquerading
as a functional Electronic control system for a Vehicle... When,in Reality, It's nothing more than a Craftily Designed (With 40 year old "Tin Can" Technology) "System" whose main function is to SELL PARTS AND SERVICE to the Un-Weary. How is it that the Japanese can Master these "Difficulties" and that "Stuttgart" is Clueless ? No Way I'll EVER "Invest" (What a Damnable Joke) in a newer model MB!
