Replacing oil pan gasket difficulty rating?

Seems we have a leaky oil pan gasket on our 103 engined 88 300te.

Anyone have any advice... or experience on how difficult it is and if a hoist is needed?
I looked in the Haynes manual and it talks about exhaust removal and hoists.... but it covers so many engines and combinations its confusing!
I looked on my 124 Mercedes CD and could not find it mentioned anywhere...
Maybe I am just computer dumb!

Any input would be welcome!

Perfect set up is to put the car on jack stands, to make it easier to get under, but you should have an engine "cherry picker" to raise the engine also, just a bit, because usually you need a bit of clearance to get the rear of the pan over the engine crossmember.
1 to 10, 10 being the hardest job imaginable? Probably 6 or so. Just time consuming type of work, especially if you are fighting rust and you aren't in climate-controlled conditions or good weather.

are you sure about the oil pan?usual leak is from the upper timing cover.off with the distrib cap and rotor and then you can see the problem.

So the engine does have to be raised and the exhausts removed...
Ok, so with my other post about spark plugs and the oil stem seals being shot, I guess it would be good to do it all at once?

Oh crap, just remembered it's a 4Matic. The differential is part of the oil pan, I've never done a pan gasket on a 4Matic. No idea how much extra work it would be, probably enough to make me buy stock in "Oil Dri". On a regular 300E, yes you would need to raise the engine a bit to get clearance to get the pan out from between the block and crossmember. Just a few inches, would need to watch the fan blades, exhaust I think can stay on even, mainly just watch the fan and disconnect the motor mounts, just need 2-4 inches or so. Need to have the car on stands high enough that the pan can come down enough to be removed, the pan has to kind of swing over the crossmember.

OK, I saw 300TE and automatically thought 4Matic I guess. Good!
