Throttle response (190E 16v)

The throttle response on my 190E 2.5-16 seems pretty good overall as you would hope. At low revs in my car if I apply the throttle quickly there is quite a jolt and bang in the drivetrain, so much so that I think something is wrong with it. However I noticed yesterday that if do this at high revs (4500rpm+), there is no jolt or bang whatsoever, and the throttle response seems kind of soft and smooth. Can you please shed some light on why this is? Is there softer engine response at high rpms?

Sounds like excessive drive line lash-check engine and transmission mounts, the mounts (rubber) that connect the different parts of the propeller-shaft (i think thats what they are called in england?) and also the rear subframe mounts (4 of them on a 190e). Last but not least, the LSD may have gotten sloppy and worn out.

cheers,

Thanks

Both front engine mounts are new, there was no noticeable difference in fitting them. Gearbox was just rebuilt and new "flex disc(s)" fitted (the rubber propshaft couplings you talk about) - I'm not sure how many were replaced but they're in ok condition. This didn't make a difference either.

How do I check the subframe mounts? I'm still confused about why the bang is there at low revs but not at high revs!?

Do a search under my name for subframe mounts, you should find a .pdf document by another member about how to check and replace them on a 190e. Also, I added my .02 with info about a tool that i used for the job. What about the transmission mount? Had to replace mine when leaking clutch cylinder fluid (dot 4 break fluid) wrecked it. Also, is your engine in good shape? A bad cylinder at low rpm might not be felt at all at high rpm.

I am going to go with subframe mounts too.
Maybe the subframe has shifted back on the bad mounts as you accelerate but when you come to a stop it shifts forward and then back as you start off again.

You might also have broken differential mounts.

Excellent, found the PDFs and am reading.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the problem was in the diff - presumably there's a fairly easy way to tell/measure diff wear?

I had funny goings-on in the drivetrain a few years back with my W124 300D. Turned out that the prop shaft coupling had been fitted backwards. Correct way round = "new car" ride.
