I have a 94 E420 with the jo-standard shifter. I just aquired an E-class shifter that has P-R-N-D and then -/+ next to D. It has the summer/winter switch. Is this possible to install or do I need all kinds of crazy trans work to make it electronic for the up/down shifts? I have not received it yet but I figured if it does not "bolt right up" with minimal effort and expense I can sell it. Is this for 4 or 5 speed trans and what year did it come out in? Is this an E-Matic shifter for 4 wheel drive? Any thoughts?

Sorry Bigshot, but that won't work.
Your 1994 is equipped with a 722.4 4 speed auto, that is a vacuum (?) operated transmission and does not rely on electronics for shifting inputs.
The shifter you have is probably out of a 2000 or 2001 MY E-class that came with the 722.6 electronic trans. There is a major difference and they won't be compatible. Also, the gated shifter is different than the +/- shifting, and the phsycial size of the shift columns/gates in the 2 cars are different.
Sorry, but unless you want to invest thousands and thousands (anything's possible), you're SOL! Atleast you can see it and get some money for it.

David, you are close.

The E's (most of them), came with a 722.3 tranny.

It is a 4 speed auto and is vacuum/ modulator controlled.

The only way to manually shift it with the shift lever.

Sorry.

Donnie,
The 722.3 trans came with the E W124? And from what years were this?

What is the difference between the 722.4 and the 722.3? Thanks!
