For reliability and solid engineering, a Honda is hard to beat. But Accords bore me to death anyway.

I get to reguarly drive a lot of different cars, new and old. Honestly, there is nothing out there that really excites me quite like our stable of Benzes. Yesterday I drove the wagon all over the place and still marvel in the quiet, smooth ride. A fella in a new E class was at an intersection where I turned in front of him, and he couldn't take his eyes off the wagon. The fact that you VERY seldom see one around here, and there are Hondas, Toyotas, Subarus, etc. by the THOUSANDS, is always nice too. Still love the old Benzes.

I will not buy another MB unless it's under warranty, or unless it's pre-1990 as a collector. I am disappointed to say the least in the 99. I pay more every month in repairs than I would on a payment and this car has only 140,000 miles.
I confess, I compare every car with my old 88 Honda Accord. 300,000 miles with few problems and were it not for a deer accident, it would still be on the road.
Everyday I drive the MB, I enjoy the feel of it, but loath the check engine light. I feel safe in the MB, it drives very well. And, it hasn't left me stranded even once. But the electrical issues are out of control.

I must say, I drive a Lexus as my daily driver, however I will always
own at least one Mercedes. I love turning wrenches on my '78 MB, however between fuel and wear, I know she shouldn't be driven daily (although I find it hard to resist doing this). I cant quite justify trading in my paid off Lexus (which runs excellent and looks great) on a new E350CDI, however when major parts begin to fail on the Lexus, I will have no choice but to trade in the Japanese sedan on something with a star on the hood. I will always drive a Benz, because they are the best built vehicles, they have soul as someone else pointed out, and they are ingenious in their design (as we who do our own mechanics can attest to). Nothing compares to a Mercedes in terms of pride in ownership. They truely are "Unlike any Other".

My 65 year old neighbour (grandmother) just bought a Honda Accord.
Shoot me first before I drive a Honda, otherwise I might get bored to death.

Mercedes Benz - Honda ? What kind of question is that. I can appreciate the utility aspect of a honda, but PLEASE, its a cheap japanese econobox. I drove an 07 Accord for a friend a few months ago, the car felt crappy all over. I would rather drive a 190E for all eternity than have a new top line honda every year (or even an Top Line Acura).

Just my thoughts,
Dave.

For sex appeal I would choose the BMW Coupe

I have just been trying to be more practical this time. My wife's Honda is just too reliable to ignore and the new Honda coupe really isn't ugly and costs much less than the BMW, so I took a look. I don't know if I could trade the feeling of driving my car for the feeling of driving the Honda, but it seemed it was worth considering.

Econobox? I used to sing your tune, but are yu sure that 07 you drove wasnt a 97? The new Accord is hardly an econobox. 250+ HP and feels solid as hell. Even my friend's 07 (old body) is solid and strong.

For that matter, the new Civic is the same size as my 97 C230. Parked beside one in the lot the other day, and I think the damn thing is actually WIDER than my Benz...

Well you can't really compare a new car to a 20 year old design.

What do those new Accords go for loaded? Low $30k's? One of my friends has an 05 Accord sedan, loaded to the hilt. Its kind of loud and rough, has the v6 which is pretty fast. They are OK I think the Acura's are nice, but even the new TL has kind of a chessy interior. Acura doesn't pay much attention to details, the window switch's and door handles are low rent.

Thats a lot of money for the Honda, the BMW is a better car. Not sure about the new coupe but the last one is real nice. My cousin has an 04 330CI, drove it back to back with a Nissan 350Z. The 330CI has a better shifter, handles better, sweeter engine, etc etc. The Honda is FWD I can't imagin it handles like a BMW coupe, or shifts like one, or is as fast as one. But a 335CI is going to cost you at least $15k more than the Accord.

I agree new cars are pretty nice, if I had $110k sitting around I'd go and buy a new S550 to replace my W126.

If you want a new MB couple the CLK550 coupe is pretty nice. The new V8 is very fast. Its going to cost over twice as much as the Honda though.

The best part about driving an old MB is not having to pay $500 a month to drive a new car.

Yeah, the 3-series and for that matter, a C300, can be had for low 30s, but you're gonna pay high 30s by the time you put any options on it. That new 1-series is looking pretty attractive though, especially at $25kish

I'd really rather drive my '04 Impala company car, it's a perfect transportation appliance. But my '86 420SEL is fine in ways the Impala will never be. It feels big as a truck and it has a few minor issues I'm working on, but it still reminds me of Gloria Swanson's character describing her Isotta-Fraschini to her new boyfriend who was bemoaning his loss of his Plymouth convertible to the repossessors, in "Sunset Boulevard". The only other car for me is a Rolls-Royce.

I priced both out, very lightly optioned you are looking at $35k-$38k, for either one. A 335CI with a few options must be low $40k range. You can get a 3 series sedan into the low $40k range without much effort. The C class as usual is a bit more expensive, but similer.

I priced out leasing a lightly optioned 3 series sedan, sticker just under $35k. Its going to cost you $18k over three years, pay it any way you want. It would be a good write off if you are making decent money and can expense your car. I'll probably do it when I get out of school; the only downside is both the 3 series and C class are little cars with little back seat room. Move up to a 5 series or E class and the costs skyrocket.
