I'm installing my Remus Exhaust this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew what would happen to my car if I take out the Cat and put straight pipe. I know my check engine light will come on but will my computer make the engine run different?
Thanks

Are you talking about the cat or the mid muffler/resonator? Big difference. It is illegal to take the cat out and, if you have inpections in your state, you will not pass. The O2 sensor is located in the immediate area of the cat. The resonator, on the other hand, you can do with not much problems. Do a "search" on the subject, there are a lot of info on the subject...

In my state there are no more inspections. I'm talking about the cat. I just want to know if there will be big problems (my computer making engine work different, etc)

Thanks

Unless you will be racing it at the local dragstrip every weekend you will not see enough performance increase to be worth it. It is my opinion that you should not even be bringing a question up in a public forum such as this but that is why it is public. You do not want to get caught removing a cat. in the US if you plan on keeping the car on public highways.

You can replace the stock converter with a "free flow" one. That way you will still be legal and your engine will breath better.

I'm not trying to gain performance/race my car. There are no emmisions in my state!!!!! All I was asking was a simple Question, whether or not the engine will run different w/o the cat? I didn't want to hear your opinion on the topic.

I can see no way the computers could detect this? Do they measure back pressure??

To Cat or not to Cat

FYI From MercedesShop.com Parts Department:
We have fantastic prices on aftermarket Cat/Converters. The 48 state as well as California, with a fantastic warranty. Five years or 50,000 miles. Give me a call if you have a need.
In most states, I belive all, not sure, there is a hefty fine that goes with removing your Catalytic Converters.

Your partsman
