1994 E320 Resonance Intake Manifold Switchover valve - Vaccum connection???

I had the Resonance Valve out of my car this weekend to work on the ETA. On reassembly, I was rehooking up all the vaccum and electrical connenctions and noticed a vaccum nipple next to the electrical connection for the Resonance valve.

I did not have any vaccum lines laying around inside the engine that went to this. I got under the engine and visually followed all vac lines including those to and from the tranny. I searched the vaccum diagrams and did not see any vaccum lines leading to this device on the schematics. The nipple still is shiny indication it did have a hose on it recently.

I did take a length of Vac line and connected it to the unit. I ran the engine and did not notice any suction or hissing from the hose. I drew vaccum on the hose and did not hear any change to the engine.

Is there a line I am missing?

Thanks

Brian

If I remember correctly, there is a short (1 1/2 inch) piece of vac line that connects between the top part and the bottom part of valve. Maybe yours is missing???? The only other vac line is from the back side of the ETA. It connects to the purge valve (black thing with MOT letters located on top of drivers side fender well) with larger diameter plastic type vac line.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply JM.

I do recall seeing that short line on the side facing the engine block. It was intact.

Since I removed the ETA, I did see that second line you indicated. It was in good shape and I put it back on the ETA when I reassembled everything.

Perhaps the open nipple is to allow atmospheric pressure onto the back side of the diaphragm since the short line on the valve is already providing a vaccum source?

I have a line attached to the nipple and I can block it and see if the engine performs differently when I drive home tonight. In reading here, the resonance apparently opens only at higher RPM. I will watch for issues when I am accelerating into Allentown traffic tonight.

Thanks Rick76

I was hoping that is all it was. THanks also for the part number on the filter. I will add that to my shopping list for my next visit to the parts counter.
