Help! Power windows & sunroof don’t operate
I was installing driving lights and I decided to wire them up to the switched power lead in the center console of my C280. It is the small white connector with 3 wires leading from it, I guess it's used for the factory phone. Seemed handy as I don’t have a cell phone and the power and ground wires are not being used. After hooking everything up the lights worked, then after making a few final connections – nothing.
Now my 4 windows and sunroof don’t work and I have no power from the lead in the center console. I checked all the fuses, in my C280 the ones I want are in the trunk, #’s 7, 10 & 13. They all looked unblown (I even replaced them – no change). In fact, I checked EVERY fuse, even the ones in the engine bay and they all were good Is there something I’m missing? Perhaps there is a main fuse that controls these items. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Corey

It sounds as if the power in the convience controller is down. I would suspect a fuse. I would bet that the lamps pulled too much amperage and blew a fuse somewhere.
You really need to use a relay to connect the lights. Then just trigger the relay with a switch.

First of all, what kind of driving lights are you puting on?? (I have wanted to make the fog lights be DRLs, but have yet to get around to it.)
Yeah, sounds like your convenience relay, which is in the trunk by the fuse box back there. So none of the windows or sunroof operate, try using the key in the door to see if you can get them to open. (Just in case you don't know how to do this, lock the car with the key, then unlock the car with the key, but when you turn the key to unlock it, HOLD it there for atleast 2 seconds, when the windows and sunroof should open.) Keep us posted.

Ok, I tried to get the windows to open with the key - I locked and unlocked the doors and held the key in the unlock position. It did not work. As for the convience controller, where is it located? I opened the trunk and found a green relay w/ a 30 amp fuse with the numbers 001-542-9619 on it. The fuse however, was not blown.
Windows & sunroof still down. Any other ideas?? Thanks.

Still no luck with getting the windows and sunroof to work. I checked in the trunk and found the two white (convience control?) relays under the black cover by the battery. But after removing the white covers, they did not appear to be blown. There was no burn marks and they both looked new. Does ayone have other suggestions?
Thanks

The green relay you see is the fuel pump relay!
The window/sunroof COMPUTER is by the battery & is in a black plastic box with several wiring connectors. THIS computer controls all window & sunroof functions. Take a look at fuses # 2 & 5 in the trunk also!! They supply the computer with power.

MB Doc,
It is possible for the computer to be damaged? Would the fuses not blow first? I checked all the fuses in the trunk and all appeared to be good. Is there anything else I should be checking before assuming the computer is bad. Thanks
