window regulator or motor?
Well, I've had yet another power window fail, driver's side front. There is still voltage to the junction block just under the door handle, but no movement. I'm guessing it's just the motor that needs to be replaced. Do the regulators fail very often? Should I replace the regulator as well? I have the one with the black plastic case - Brose Coburg I believe, is it more suseptible to failure than the R & S regulator?
Thanks Darryl

Yours is not the first 190E I've seen with the driver's side front power window not operating, so I don't know what is classically the failure mode for those models...
...I lost both rears within a year on my 300E, and both were related to window track failures...both motors were functional. The cables unspooled and seized up (which may be why your motors are not turning in your case). I would assume that the same motors are supplied with the 190E, and therefore I would lean towards mechanical and not electrical failure. Few individual replacement parts exist for the regulator, so the other option is replacement of the entire assembly (around $140 for the rears, a bit more for the fronts). It is a DIY job, even for a novice, and would take an hour or two (depending on the difficulty of panel removal)...

My front driver regulator broke at one of the mounting points. It cracked at the casting where it mounts and would not roll up properly or stay up all the way. I have a donor door with a regulator in it that I am going to swap. The front ones are a completely different regulator setup than the rear. The front have a gear driven type and the rear are of a cable lift design. The rear regulators are pretty easy to swap out. I don't know about the front. I have swapped several regulators in other cars and it usaully take three to four hands at a time. A helpful source of information on this repair is in the HAYNES 190 manual. Good luck.

I replaced the window regulator on my driver door today and I must say that it was a piece of cake. I removed the regulator fromthe donor door and replaced the other regulator in about 45 minutes complete. It is fairly straightfoward to replace and I'm feeling pretty good about how it went.
