THis is a possiblity, but I would go the extra mile and have a leak down test get to the bottom of your problem..then you will truly know what is causing your low compression..hopefully the news will be good.

You want someone you can trust - I think most people here don't recommend the dealer only because of the cost. See http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/good-mb-shops/

As to the ring issue on M112/M113, I think that was on earlier 210's because of confusion on the oil-change intervals: people (incl MB Dealers) let non-synthetic oil go too far (like > 7500 miles) between oil changes, which led to sludge buildup, including on the rings, leading to sticking rings and high oil consumption. There was a TSB on the topic, but I think your year is well out of range.
