Bosch KE-II or III?

Still messing aroung with the lambda on my 86 300E 5 sp. I want to confirm if Terminal 3 on the diagnostic block is the correct palce to test the O2 Sensor and to check what voltage/duty cycle should be taken from it. I live in the Denver area at about 6000ft. with blended fuels. This a.m. we had a 30 degree morning and I went to see how the car would handle a cold start. It went to 1400 rpm or so, and then immediatley began cycling back and forth, between 900rpm and 1400rpm for about 3 minutes. I began driving in the neighborhood, (80C) I would stop and check it again. It would go to spec(650 or so, steady) Another couple miles, stop, then check and it rises to 1300 steady. Damned annoying! Any help or advice, not previously talked about, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, pin 3 to ground for the dwell meter or multimeter with duty cycle function.

Good luck,

Pin 3 actually indicates integrator value, which is a sign of both closed loop operation and relative mixture. It does not give O2 sensor readings. It is the result of those readings.

It sounds more likely that you have an idle control problem.

Again thanks for the info, I am looking for specific ways to interpret fault codes. In 1986 there were two kinds of fault detection, 1 was reading duty cycles and the other was a form of OBD. Any ideas on when?

The only on board diagnostics in 86 were the integrator values (duty cycle). I don't have the list at home of dutycycle to code explanations but you might want to review this article: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/EngineControls

Thanks to all who responded, Stevebfl, do you know if the duty cycle values are the same for the 86 M102's and M013's? I have the factory book for my 86 190E 2.3-8 valve, are they "standardized" between engines? Or are the 6 cylinders different? It seems that the two would be similar given all the other similarities found on the 4's and 6's........Thanks again.

Yes, they should be similar. I wouldn't buy any parts till you verify though.
