Thanks Mike, Art and Jim, I have made myself a blink code tool and have a book to read the code for the ACC on my 300 SDL.

I am not sure of a few things. Is the engine running to make the tests? Does a test have to be made with each of the ACC positions?

I hate to ask for a step by step procedure to follow, but it sure would help.

If this works, I'll feel like a cheat, heh, heh, but I'll get over it.

Thanks,
Harry 86 300 SDL

For my car, I read the codes with the ignition switch on and all lights in the IC are displayed. That's should be true for yours also.

Click my page and select menu #1 and #2 for more details in how to do it.

Well I tried the blink tool... but it was a no go for me.
At Radio Shack, I couldn't find the banana plug set (274-271c), so I bought 274-721c, assuming maybe the original was just a typo (2-7, 7-2).
Anyway, the banana plug set is way too big to fit into my connectors in the 95 C280. I don't know if I have the wrong banana plug set or if the system has different size openings?
Now for question two... you say to plug black into number 1, and red into number 7... which hole is one, and which is 7?

Thanks..!

(If it'll work at all on my C280!) ...I can already get codes (climate control) via the PBU.... will I be able to pull ABS, SRS, or other codes, besides just the Climate Control codes? If no.. then my work is pointless!

This was a good idea guys, last year I had a problem with my Tempmatic Climate Control unit too but what I did was use a stop watch, turkey thermometer, the wife’s hair dryer and it worked for me:

1. On my 87 190E 2.3 and I think most Mercedes-Benz the Tempmatic Climate Control unit if it’s malfunctioning it goes into an override function.
2. This symptom is a non response from the pushbutton unit (the air is hot and it comes out of ALL vents no matter what button you push) and only the fan speed works.
3. It may seems to go on and off intermittently but it’s actually not, it is timed in seconds. There could be five possible things wrong with the unit so five different time sequences.
4. In my case it was the outside temperature sensor because after one clicking noise from the relay the fan will go on for 20 seconds pause for four then on another 20 and so on.
5. In youalls case (if with the same fault) with the tool you will get 10 blinks every 20 seconds and so on.
6. Anyways the 20 seconds point me to the outside temperature sensor I disconnect it from the vehicle to ohmed it out but didn’t get a good study reading, what the fault was the solder became weak at the pins so I resoldered it and tested it again, got study reading!.
7. The way I’d tested for correct output was put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes, took it out and measure the ohms at the same time put my turkey thermometer next to it to read the temperature, use the wife’s hair dryer to make it hotter and raise the temperature, the ohm readings were correct at all temperatures, installed it back into the vehicle, the system worked fine after that.
