heater fan

here's my question....1990 300TE...heater fan crapped out last year and I put another one in. It worked fine but now it will only engage on ocassion.
Sometimes the fan goes on sometimes it won't. I was told by a local MB Indy shop that the blower resistor can go and that it's located below the glove box. Made sense to me cause the blower motor itself is fine and quiet and all of that. So I go to a U-Pick-Em parts yard (love these things) and lo and behold find a recently resident 1989 300E with the interior in tact.. I go into the glove area and find nothing but this controller with 7 or 8 vacumn hoses and a plug in there. Nothing else but this part and a heater vent hose up in there. It appears as though this part I found is what actuates the vent flaps for the interior air flow. My question, to make a long story short, is....where is the blower motor resistor that control the fan and speed located? It's not under the glove....Thanks

Under the blower motor. If you take out the blower motor again, under that you'll see a triangular shaped part with spikes. That's the blower regulator.

Have you checked the voltage at the three pins / connector buried above/rearward of the brake booster (12v/variable/gnd)?

You have three wires: Brown is ground, next is the variable signal from the CCU, and the third is +12vdc. Be sure you have a solid ground and 12v, then try grounding / 12v to the center pin, see if the blower runs fast/slow.
